Should I have gotten the notification by now?. I see the little windows icon on the right side of the screen. But it just prompts me to let Microsoft notify me when its ready.

Wow. He certainly makes a grand effort of pointing out its flaws. I guess we need people like this to improve the system though.

Didn't read all that, but their points about the start menu being a step back seem way off.

I think the interface is great and the best is it is customization so you can go more Win 7 type, or the newer, or even back to 8 if you like.

I never spent more than a second or two searching for anything. In Win 8 I still have to stumble around to find things.

As for bugs, well when people update an existing install, every single piece of software isn't going to work. I'm sure some morons are putting this on work/important PCs on day 1 and that's not wise. Wait for vendors to catch up.

Some people are just going to bash MS. That's just the way of the world.

Seems the machine I am going to update to Win 10 has all it's Win 10 drivers out, I am going to proceed once it gives me the green light.

My only problem was a slightly dated version of Symantec Endpoint AV and Firewall (corp version). A message came out and told me right away that it would cause problems and allowed me to uninstall.

Honestly I was shocked how well my update went.

Obviously the preview/beta has been out awhile so it isn't like vendors haven't been updating.

Things went smooth on my end. Working with my Radeon card and ran some Evil Within on Steam. Before, the game used to do brief loading pauses and now that's fixed.

One question I have is if only the first year is free ?

I have a question, will the upgrade retain all of my documents, web favorites, game saves, etc? Will I need to reinstall games and applications?

My web favorites were not retained but my docs were.

My favorites are saved in Chrome so it did not affect me. It kept my documents and applications / games. It popped a dialogue box for my video card, but I really didn't need to reinstall anything.

You keep Windows 10 forever, but you would have to make the upgrade within the first year period.

I upgraded from Windows 7 and all my documents, plus programs seemed to have carried over with no issues.

Everything came over for me. The setup asks you what you want to keep. I was going to see if my wife even noticed the difference.

My version finally activated too.

One more question (can you tell I'm nervous?)....I have multiple partitions, will it save everything in these partitions as well?

Quite a few of my friends were asking this and I have been confused as to why people would think otherwise. Yes it does.

It's not a grand effort. It's ready to notice issues like the All Apps tab of the Start Menu not showing all of his applications because Microsoft put a limit of 500 applications on it.

Still waiting on notify message here, I tried to use link to upgrade to Windows 10, but only ended in error (some error about that could not make folder).

And worked on 3rd try, first was anti maleware program messing up install then 2nd error.

What the F is up with the Runtime Broker process? It hogs like 40% CPU power. I had to disable it via the registry, but now the Start menu doesn't work.

I thought the Runtime Broker was simply for distributing access/rights for the apps? how the hell does that need 40% of the CPU power?

You should have read the new EULA. Microsoft now reserves the right to search your computer for pirated software at will. :p

My main concern with upgrading my old Windows 7 PC to Windows 10 is making sure that I can still stream video from my Xbox 360. After reading a Microsoft help thread and some of the replies I think I'm going to pass. Seems like most of the people who responded were having major troubles. Since I basically use the PC to pay bills and stream stuff, its not worth it to mess with something that is working.
