World War 3?

CNN is so waiting for a war to break out so they can be the first with the breaking news.

So what is John McCain (Cranky Kong) wanting exactly
McCain has hated on Putin forever. Probably because Putin doesn't do what he is told. Years ago in an interview Putin was asked about McCain's threat to kill him and he calmly answered his condition isn't his fault. He (McCain) was a pow and put in a pit for a number of years. Anyone would go nuts after that.:hehe:

I doubt support for a foreign military to occupy their country is very high among the general population. The more extremist likely support it, but they're in the minority.

Pardon me for not being in the loop when it comes to this issue between Russia and Ukraine...but I don't understand why Russian military are walking into Ukraine territory and just standing guard and preventing Ukraine people from coming and going...what is the real point to this?

Why all of a sudden? Seems like a Vietnam thing more than a World War deal. In reality it sounds a lot like the invasion of Kuwait from Iraq.

I just don't understand the need to invade an area of Ukraine...what could possibly be so important in that piece of land that Russia feels it needs to occupy/control/own it?

No war is going to break out at all. This is just Russia being Russia and reminding people they're still a superpower nation.

Putin is former KGB and has aspirations of putting back together the former Soviet Union for years.
I do believe that Ukraine has some pretty rich oil and Natural gas deposits as well as some decent military gear.

All it takes though is a soldier getting trigger happy and firing on another soldier

You can be pretty sure that Putin will never release his grip he now has on Ukraine. Whether or not that leads to war, who knows....

Well, I think Russia's using the excuse of having to protect Russian speaking citizens from the revolutionaries in the west. There is a strong east/west divide in the Ukraine and many citizens in the east would support a return to Russian rule. This is a good opportunity for Russia to take an area rich in oil and gas under the guise of having a legitimate cause. Plus, Russia will not want to make things easy for the new Ukrainian authorities as they are a progressive bunch and won't look to Russia for support. They will instead look for closer ties with the EU and other western powers.

What the hell is going on over there? Who is in charge right now? Was the person elected leader or a placed puppet? Does Russia recognize their new president? Will there be an actual election or does someone need this s*** to hit the fan ASAP?

These soldiers are not wearing any flags or showing any indication that they are Russian, They won't talk to anybody. Russia said they are a militia defence of locals from the region that Moscow has no control over. In reality they are heavily armed and clearly professional soldiers. Most likley special forces from the Black Sea fleet.

No, not even close. Ukraine are pro Europe and want into the EU. The ousted government were very pro Russian and supposedly in Putins pocket. Elections were rumored to be bought by Moscow.

In the Crimea region you are a majority population of Russian people living. You also have the Black Sea and more importantly, the Russian Navy Black Sea fleet and its primary naval base, which was given too them by the ex Government of Ukraine (the ones supposedly in Moscows pocket). It is suggested that the 'local defense militia' which are patrolling the area are from this fleet. Russia has stated that it fears an ethic cleanse of the area and is mobilizing to protect its citizens.

It's a mess of deceit, corruption and politics. Like most of the worlds problems.

Thanks for the explanations, I understand it better now. I agree, seems like the rest of the world's problems.

I know Mexico still hates Texans for Texas being independent.

Come on guys, let's be serious. Despite all the posturing, the US isn't going to do anything. If it was some sh*tty country with a small military, we'd already be invading. But I think Obama is too much of a p*ssy to start anything with Russia. It would be a very stupid move if he did.

My guess is he's still butthurt about the Snowden thing, which is the only reason the US is paying attention at all.

Ron Paul: "A proper foreign policy would mean a strong national defense, but a huge reduction in interventions and commitments overseas. Why are we stirring up trouble in Ukraine? In Syria? In Africa? Why are we defending South Korea and Japan when they are wealthy enough to defend themselves? A proper sized foreign policy would defend the United States instead of provoking the rest of the world."

To use Bush-speak, Putin has "tasted Obama's heart" and knows he doesn't have the stomach for a standup fight. He's knows Obama will do nothing but geo-politically flap his arms and squawk whiling shying away from a real fight like A nervous high school nerd after popping off at the mouth, just like he did in Syria. It's hard to "lead from behind" when there's no one to stand behind. Oh, I'm afraid Putin's got our little Nobel Prince of Peace's number.

Nothing is gonna happen because Putin is going insane with power. He's openly imprisoning his own people for openly protesting for gay rights, illegally invading other countries, and had one of the most expensive Olympics in modern history, despite it looking so low grade at times. People whine that Obama isn't doing anything, but they'd do the same if he flapping off his mouth. He's either a tyrant or a coward. Instead of trying to play Putin's game, let him act out. He's slowly but surely revealing himself to be another crazy a****** with too much power and not enough limits. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up becoming a modern day Ivan the Terrible.

Why is anyone blaming the american president for not starting a conflict between 2 of the 3 superpowers of this world?

Why would anyone want military intervention?
