Xbox gamertag question please?

yo guys :)
one week until xbox one hits the stores and a lot of our living rooms ;)
but quick question, as i am still keeping my xbox 360, does anyone how gamertags will function please?
i.e how will i transfer it to my xb1? (just sign in with gamer tag and password?) and will it remember my gamer tag i.e keep a seperate 360 one for when i jump back on the previous gen console?

anyone any ideas please?

You have a single Xbox Live account that is tied to an email/password. You just login with that email/password on the X1 and it "downloads" your profile (Gamerscore/achievements/money, etc.).

You can be signed in to the X1 and the X360 simultaneously without issue. No fuss, no muss!

There is no "separation" between the accounts. The account is the same no matter where you're logged in. The biggest limitation is that you won't be able to voice chat or play games cross-console gen.

You should have had this message on your 360

Be sure to bring your Xbox Live membership, friends, and gamerscore to Xbox One.
Know the email and password for your gamertag.

I (luckily) remember my email address and password, but the email address I used way back when was Yahoo mail. I'm afraid that Yahoo mail will eventually shut down and my email address for XBL will cease to exist.
 
Ok so I've got my gamertag/Gold account associated with my new Xbox One. Now how can I get a few others in my family to have gamertags on the One?
 
I created an account for the g/f today and it assigned a random gamertag, I then changed it and it didn't ask me to pay.......has changing your gamertag become free now???
