I've said that I see Sony following MS within 2 years and I still stand by that.

Agree that Nintendo are the only ones that can actually "survive" sticking to the exclusive format.
Which makes Spencers email about them even funnier than it already was.

I see Sony porting their old exclusives to PC more and live service games on PC day 1. But porting to Xbox and Nintendo? Still don't see it.

With Xbox moving away from consoles and shifting to everything everywhere all at once , PlayStation can grow in the premium console space. Nintendo will continue on by their own way. Xbox will go third party and sell on all platforms to get more revenue.

Xbox isn't moving away from consoles though. I mean, that would be like saying Sony is moving away from consoles.

Sony has already starting making inroads to porting their games to Xbox. MLB is their first. And now they are planning to have Marathon come to Xbox, as well as the next Destiny. And now rumors are still swirling that Helldivers 2 will hit Xbox as well.

It's really a win win for gamers around the world.

Bond addressed the importance of hardware in Xbox’s future vision, concurring with an earlier statement by CEO Phil Spencer that Xbox hardware would continue being the flagship offering for players, despite the gaming brand’s aims to go multi-platform. Moreover, Bond teased the company's plans for “some exciting stuff coming out in hardware” that will be shared during the holidays.

Regarding the next-gen hardware, Bond mentioned,
“And what we're focused on there is delivering the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation, which makes it better for players and better for creators and the visions they're building.”

Ah so next gen hardware. Interestingly, if this is their next gen being announced Holidays 2024, means they expect to ship it soon after ? I always thought they were targeting 2026 at the earliest.

Yet Sony are the ones in trouble. lol.

Old exclusives culminate in extra expense and low sales.

Their financial reports show higher costs due to their big first party studios have not released major games, COVID delays catching up to them, and wider economic forces:

(ー) Increase in losses from hardware mainly due to promotions
(ー) Impact of decrease in sales of first-party titles

Also PlayStation's operating income has dropped significantly partly because of the Bungie acquisition. In 2022, Sony acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion, but instead of being paid all at once, the purchase price is being expensed over multiple quarters.

They should be operating at a higher profit right now with no first party games. They rely on third party revenue for building first party games.

Wait, it’s known that they don’t make a profit from their licensed games until the sell a certain amount that appeases the licensers. That’s one reason why it doesn’t make sense for them to put games day one on ps+.

And Sony set aside money just for buying studios, it’s money that just goes stag if they don’t use it anywhere within Sony. I think they still have a few mill left.

It sucks that they’re relying heavily on their major first party games. I’m sure we’ll get some smaller games this year….their state of play can’t come soon enough. Need me a new locoroco, maybe for psvr2

They don't have much big first party games this year which is why they signed a bunch of third party and second party exclusive deals to carry them till next year. The Pro , GTA 6 and their delayed big first party games should start hitting in 2025. There is a little lull between Spiderman 2 releasing last Fall to 2025. Thankfully the exclusive deals are great thus far. It's been a busy Q1 for them in terms of quality releases.

Sells more on PlayStation and would be affecting their profits. Also if they bundle it / advertise with the Pro enhancements would also boost sales.
Sells more on PlayStation than what? I am confused. It sounds like the Xbox is going to get the marketing rights based on leaks for bundles and advertising.

For console marketshare. PlayStation copies sell the most. That would be a big get for Xbox and if that doesn't move consoles, I don't know what will.

Why would the Pro give them a boost? You think they'll sell it at a profit on Day 1? Nobody is moving to Sony for the Pro - it's just an upgrade for existing PS5 customers.

People like shiny new tech so at launch they may see a boost but again depends on what profit margin they working with here with the Pro.

So Sony are wrong. Cool. Nice to know the fangirls know more than the CFO, CEO, etc.

What? The financial reports are from Sony.
Lol.

Sure, lets forget the new CEO being focused on the operating costs that Playstation has been biching about for months and called "unstainable."

What about the downsizing/lay offs?

You don't do this because a few quarters look unhealthy due to buying Bungie.

They don't even have big games coming out untill 2025 to help out either. Lol.

Jim Ryan has nigh on killed Playstation.

New CEO wants sustainable growth as first party game like Spiderman 2 used too big of a budget.

Hence why they are turning their old exclusives into PC ports for the added revenue stream.

Downsizing and layoffs - look at the whole gaming industry, everyone is doing it to cut costs and sustain profit margins.

PlayStation 5 is on pace to be the most successful console in multiple vectors as per Jim, had record gaming revenue this past quarter . Their market cap has grown 20 billion since before the big COVID drop . They are on pace again to sell over 100 million consoles, Nowhere near being killed off lol.

Which vectors exactly? I'm sure if they were meaningful he would have mentioned them specifically.

This guy lied to regulators. He didn't misspeak or change plans or change his mind - he lied to regulators telling them the opposite of what he was saying internally at Sony at the same time. Why would we listen to him now when he is on the way out and has nothing to lose?
