Previews of unfinished products are growing in popularity. Users get to provide feedback to developers and also have the chance to play games and try software earlier than the general public. Previewing games still in development is already popular on PCs and is now coming to the Xbox One in the form of Xbox One Game Preview.

Every game that is part of the Xbox One Game Preview has a free trial so users can decide if they want to pay to be part of that specific game’s preview program.

At E3 they listed a select number of games that will be coming soon.

  • The Long Dark
  • Sheltered
  • Elite Dangerous
  • DayZ

I played Long Dark last night. I really don't know what to think of this game. The controls are slow, it is slow moving, and getting around is kind of glitchy. The menu and UI is almost pre-school looking...just HUGE buttons and items...was this designed to be on a tablet originally?

Kinda sucks only have a 60 minute trial, but I know I wouldn't pay $19.99 for this game. Off to the next game.
 
Yeah, the long dark is a great game if you're having trouble sleeping.
 
I just played The Long Dark 60 minute trial and I think I need to get this. But I'm wondering how long the game is or maybe how big the world is etc.

I found it incredibly intriguing. Got killed by a wolf because I didn't know how to use my knife that I'd just found :(

It is slow moving and the load times between indoor/outdoor is pretty bad considering how basic looking the game is and it is 2015.

Anyway, I might get it.......hmmmmm.
 
Definitely a cool concept. I'd like to try Long Dark too.

I caved in a bought it. I can't stop playing it but I keep getting killed by a wolf because you only see how to fight when it happens, and it takes the wolf 5 seconds to kill me and I don't know how to fight back.

I need to find a gun but haven't seen one yet :(

I guess they're allowing everyone to try these games?

I'm not in the preview program and I see them in the store.

Where do you find these games? I've been out of the loop so long, I feel lost anymore lol. I'd assume I don't get them but somebody mentioned they got them and they aren't in the Xbox Preview thing.

You don't need to be in the Preview to play these. Its pretty much a paid beta. If you open the Xbox games store it'll be all the way at the bottom underneath the game demo section.

They show up under ID@Xbox games.
 
Only spent 15 minutes of the Elite Dangerous trial. Seems like a pretty decent learning curve to it. If I get the time I may watch more of the tutorial videos and give it a try again.

Thanks, they were buried down there. The Long Dark was the most boring game I've ever played. I'm pretty open minded with games, but I spent 30 minutes walking up to some tower with a building on top. I started a fire, collected some food and a newspaper, exited the game and deleted it.

I recommend watching this person's video rather than wasting precious time on boring tutorials. S/he is an excellent Elite player that gets the most out of the game, so once you see these videos you'll understand what you can do in the game. That, and I kid you not, s/he is a master storyteller. Super super entertaining.
