You know Sony, something is real until it hits the streets. Just last week Sony said that sleep mode, which by the way was touted back at the reveal, won't be available at launch which basically means they hope people will forget about that feature and it will never come to the console.
They do this constantly.

Sony will be able to run music in background and such but they have never showed anything to the degree of snapping apps.
I am no fan of Windows 8. I have it at home on an HP all in one machine that I bought a couple months ago. I have 8.1 installed as well, and I think it's garbage. I do like the Xbox One dashboard, but I think it works better for that environment. Windows 8 though, having a START desktop and a regular desktop is horrible. It's a nightmare.I am excited to get the Xbox One on day one. But I absolutely hate how the dashboard looks like Windows 8. I hate Windows 8 so much that the video is making not as excited for the console launch. Yes, I hate Windows 8 that much!
No way in hell it works that fast.
I hope you're right. If it's close to that, amazing.I think you'll be surprised.
That's obviously a 'best case scenario', but it really can work like that. The game (Titan Fall) would be running in non-visible/constrained mode while finding a match, etc... all the game needs is loaded in memory (even when it's not given focus), so switching to it is instant - like on a phone - and it really works like that.
Additionally, if the other applications had been loaded up previously, and they were ALSO in memory, then yeah - it would work exactly like that, with that level of speed.
Now again, that is a best case scenario... but it really can be that fast, and in most cases it will be that fast. If you frequently use Skype, it'll likely sit in memory untouched. If you frequently use IE, it'll likely sit in memory. If you use SmartGlass, and send an event to your box which kicks off a game running behind the scenes to start matchmaking, and load everything into memory behind other active applications (video, Skype, IE, etc.) - then it will e exactly like that.
This has been the vision all along. Instant action, instant switching, and all done seamlessly with voice (which is faster than pressing buttons in cases like this).
I think you'll be surprised.

I am 99% certain that streamed movies will not start playing that fast. We will still have to wait 2-5 seconds for them to buffer before they start playing, just like now.
This shows the best in real-time. Why can't they make more of these videos?
To start playing yes..but the dash vid shows a video in mid play, and the TF reel is supposed to represent a game in mid play (according to AP). So yeah, it can work that fast to simply unpause and start playing again, no buffering should be needed.I am 99% certain that streamed movies will not start playing that fast. We will still have to wait 2-5 seconds for them to buffer before they start playing, just like now.
Pennello said that the video switching that fast was obviously because the Pacific Rim movie was already being played. So yeah, he basically said the movie would still have to spin up.
That video actually shows the snap feature has issues, especially with TV freezing and hiccups, notice how they quickly go back to the MS rep in that vid?
It is an early vid though.
Glad you added that, because the truth is that everyone's busting their butts to make it all work even more seamlessly, more smoothly, etc., and the kinds of changes/improvements you can see in even a weak during this critical crunch time is pretty incredible.
Not trying to go too off topic. but "its a nightmare"?I am no fan of Windows 8. I have it at home on an HP all in one machine that I bought a couple months ago. I don't think that's true. Essentially what is happening in that video is the movie is paused and switching back to it is just unpausing it. That takes like a quarter of a second tops lol.I am 99% certain that streamed movies will not start playing that fast. We will still have to wait 2-5 seconds for them to buffer before they start playing, just like now.
Not trying to go too off topic. but "its a nightmare"?
A bit extreme no? How often are you going into your start screen to begin with?
Anyway, i have a logitech trackpad with gesture support that allows me to fly around windows 8...a fan of it myself.....if i wasn't i would just not use metro apps....if i REALLY wasn't...i would just get a 3rd party utility and continue living my life.
If you don't like W8's interface you might not like Ubuntu's either lol,Yes, a serious by saying it's a nightmare. Now, let me clarify...it's a UI nightmare. As far as reliability, feature set and performance, I can't really comment. The UI is such a disaster, that I have refused to even use the OS. I am normally a Mac guy (2 iMacs which I lost to the wife in the divorce, and I just bought a new macbook air 2 months ago), so I go back to my macbook air by default. Don't get me wrong, the OSX Mavericks is a step in the wrong direction as well. They are trying to combine mobile and desktop into one like Windows 8, but at least it's not as bad as Windows 8, at least not yet.
Still thinking about wiping the HP all in one clean and going with Ubuntu.
lol...you literally can run windows 8 like windows 7 with start 8.
8.1 added the ability to start up to your desktop and turn off hot corners.
No doubt I am in the minority. I accept that millions are totally fine with it. I am just pointing out, in my opinion, it's a disaster. That doesn't make it fact, just saying I can't stand it. But to bring this back on topic, I LOVE the UI on the Xbox One dashboard. I think it fits perfectly.Man the hyperbole and outrage over Win 8 is laughable imo
Yeah sorry didn't mean to take my annoyance out on you...just surprising to me.No doubt I am in the minority. I accept that millions are totally fine with it.
