Xbox Teasing A New Announcement For Next Week

We already know that Microsoft will be hosting an Xbox and Windows 10 games showcase next week, but our hype for the event got tuned up significantly thanks to a bunch of new tweets made by Xbox Ireland and Xbox France on Twitter- new tweets that hint at a new major announcement coming up next week.

In particular, Xbox Ireland’s tweet seems to show off an Xbox One Controller inside a book, teasing a ‘new chapter.’ This seems to hint to me, more than anything else, that they are teasing a newAlan Wake game- which makes me pretty excited. Another adventure starring the writer? Yes please. Especially since the original game was great.

Whatever this new announcement is, we will find out soon enough. We’ll also know whether the new game, if it exists, is an Xbox One exclusive, or if it will be coming to Windows 10 PCs too. Now we just wait for Microsoft’s event to spill the beans.

I bet it is some sort of Oculus rift partnership with actual VR game experiences on X1.

Don't think it's game related. I agree with Valliance on this one.

I take it as a new chapter for the Xbox brand, not as a new game.

There's some rumours about Forza 6/Horizon 3 going to Windows 10. Would be nice if this happens and digital X1 buyers got the Windows game free like QB. I'm liking this amalgamation of Xbox One and Windows 10. Going to give MS great bargaining power with devs going forward.

I don't want them to announce Forza Horizon 3 so soon.

I just want them to announce the soundtrack so I can go ahead and buy all the songs.

Here's the previous announcement for the Feb 25th event....who's doubling down on their predictions?

Microsoft Announces Xbox And Windows 10 Press Event For February 25th

"Microsoft has sent now sent out invites to the media for its event in San Francisco on Feb 25th. It is a Windows 10 and Xbox media event, so expect news around Microsoft’s entertainment related properties. Event invite has confirmed that Xbox chief Phil Spencer will be there at the event. Also, this event will showcase “the best games and platform experiences launching this spring on Xbox and Windows 10.”

I’m expecting new first party games, Groove service update, more integration between Xbox and Windows 10, and may be a Xbox slim to take on Apple TV and other media streaming devices."

E3 is 4 months away, seems weird to start blowing their load on games now that may not release for another year to two years+.

Why do I read these Gaf threads, my god. Every post is ''selling my xbox'', ''well no need for an xbox anymore'', ''xbox is done''.

So many games rumoured to come to W10. I hope they have something big planned because so far this has generated a lot of negativity. This isn't Apple where they could sh1t in your mouth and you'd still think you just had the greatest meal of your lifetime. Microsoft could produce the greatest console, phone whatever and people would still bash them just for their name. Whatever happens next I hope they'll keep supporting the Xbox brand and keep making consoles.

What's really silly about this attitude, is that cross platform really benefits everyone. It is the most consumer-friendly approach I've seen in all my years of gaming. To be honest, Microsoft is in the business of selling games and services. Xbox and pc are just delivery devices.

There may very well be PC players who now buy an Xbox just because of that extra TV that they can now play their existing games on. Regardless of what people on gaming boards think, not all PC gamers even have ultimate gaming rigs, let alone turn their noses at consoles.

In short, Gamer: "screw you, Microsoft! I don't need Xbox anymore to play your so called exclusives. I'm going PC!" Microsoft: "thank you for purchasing Forza 6 on PC!" Smart (rational) Gamer: "thank you Microsoft, for not only allowing freedom of choice, but extending the buying rights to both platforms simultaneously!"

All future Xbox exclusives coming to PC with cross play and Xbl dropping to $20.

I think it's more likely they raise the price of Xbox Live to $70 or something. Remember they raised it $10 years ago and said it was because they offered the best service for so long and it was time to raise the price or whatever. I don't know. XBL is their biggest money maker and they've been pissing off the internet lately. So i wouldn't be surprised.

TDbank24 =/= the internet.

Lol, you think i'm the only one who doesn't care for Microsoft's direction with the Xbox brand lately? With all due respect, i think you'd have to be a casual gamer to think cross play is only peaches and cream for Microsoft. If it works out, awesome. If it means more sequels and another Xbox console, awesome. If it means Xbox getting phased out so we can all play on PC, then go f*** yourself Microsoft.

Don't get it twisted, as much as Microsoft has dropped the ball this gen they've still put out an amazing experience. But if they want more money, all they need to do is actually try harder. Putting your games on PC for a few extra sales does nothing for you. All Sony has to do next gen is run ads saying PS5 is the only place to play real exclusives and it's over.

As a very active neogaf member, gaf/=/general consumer.

Plus this gen gaf is very Sony leaning unlike last gen.

People saying no need for an Xbox, they probably weren't going to buy one anyways.

People saying going to sell their Xbox, who cares, Microsoft already got the money for the hardware sale, and they will continue to get the software sale.

And people that say the Xbox is done, well they are just stupid.

What happens next the Xbox becomes Microsoft's steam machine, though I expect continued custom hardware. I'm hoping since the end game is getting as many people tied to their software and services, that next gen makes a base sku to compete with the ps5 and then an enthusiast sku that is significantly more powerful. No reason why they can't do it with how great the surface team has been :-p

What exclusives are those? Microsoft has Halo. Gears. Forza.

Sony has... baseball.

And don't get me wrong, I f***ing love The Show. But it isn't a killer exclusive.

Exactly, are we really expecting new first party announcements at this event?
Yeah, I don't know why some blow these events out of proportion, proclaiming new game announcements. I kind of doubt that will happen too...cuz E3.

They still have enough services announcements that I've been waiting all this time for...where are all the Win 10 "universal apps" that I was promised, Microsoft?

Dude seriously, the Xbox is not getting phased out. They would eliminate millions of console users who will never play on PC and piss a bunch of people off at the same time. Xbox console hardware HAS to be in the entertainment space for an entire contingent of gamers to EVER be willing to use their services.

Believing that this move will cause them to eliminate the Xbox is downright ignorant. Especially when you consider that anyone who doesn't have a beefy PC rig (most people) will get Xbox exclusives at much cheaper price of admission on the console.

As far as PC sales go, you do realize that with a user base of 200 million, if you only sold copies to 0.5% of your users, you're still talking about 1 million in sales right?

The console will be if they're putting all their games on PC. Which is where the industry is headed anyway going digital, so whatever. Next gen we'll have the Win10box and we'll all be one big family. I'm fine with that. As long as Microsoft puts out powerful hardware they'll be good to go. They're not going to beat the PS5 or the NX but they don't have to.

I don't know where you get 200 million PCs from though. You mean 200 million Windows 10 devices? They're not going make a lot of money off PC sales of games, but if it's enough to get sequels i'm all for it. This is the future and we're all just here to take the ride. I've seen the light. Xbox will always be the best box in my eyes. No matter what Microsoft does.

what ever it is im supporting MS and I think when they announce it we should look deep into what it is instead the first few words and run with it and not know what it is.

MS have not once did me wrong and I have been on live more than 12 years.
I know its not going to be a game, but if it is then great.

I am already now a PC and X1 user under MS platform. I dont like to much PC games but to able to play my xbox anywhere in my house on top of that to have a game for my console AND to have a Windows 10 version for free is big for me. Any other game I can just stream from my xbox WIRED and its all good.

That is how you take care of your people. Also BC games that I still haven't touched.

Yeah, they're making a desperate money grab by giving away the game on PC if you buy it on XB1, plus giving away Alan Wake and the DLC and American Nightmare too. Those money grubbing bastards can't keep giving us free stuff and expect us to not notice!
