The what?
Crazy thought; what if this image is a star from a neighboring universe and there is a loose gausian / window screen affect on the light passing through? I've wondered sometimes if the multiverse is like how a piles of soap bubbles touching eachother look or like a big honeycomb, not necessrily vast spherical spaces.

No projector, cos their technically pixels.Or what if it's huge reflective surfice? Maybe a Dyson Sphere like you suggest or some big construct out there?
