You know what I'm talking about... the games that you love that you don't want your friends to know you play! I want to write a really good Top 10 Guilty Pleasures article but 10 is a lot! What have you got everyone?

I'll start... and this is a bad one because I know that SO MANY PEOPLE hated on this game but I loved Azurik for the OG Xbox. Lost count of the hours I put into that horrible game until I saved on top of a moving platform and forever after that I would spawn and the platform would be above me so I would plummet to my death.

Honorable mentions go to Zuma for the wasted hours shooting at colored balls, Dance Central for making me look like a drunk toddler while thrashing to 'Gangnam Style', DJ Hero for making me pompous enough to think I might actually be able to DJ one day and finally WWE All Stars because I'm not a 10 year old anymore... I should know better!

What else have you got!? What games do you love that you usually like to keep to yourself?

I loved Azurik as well. So I guess that counts.

I remember that beach volleyball game with DOA characters. I think that qualifies as a guilty pleasure too.

DoA Volleyball definitely qualifies... you dirty bird you.

Really? Zuma, Dance Central, WWE All Stars, and DJ Hero? Hardly crimes in any gamers book. I've played Smurf 2, Avatar: The Burning Earth, MorphX, Beowulf, Ride to Hell: Retribution, and Final Fantasy XIII are what I consider to be my biggest sins. Just because I see them as legit bad games or have legit bad reps. I'd say my biggest guilty pleasure that i legit love to this day is Bullet Witch. Just a fun game to me.

Honestly, without making any fans upset, I almost feel like Nintendo games are a guilty pleasure. Like the best kind.

Playing them is one thing but did you LOVE them? I've played a lot of sh*t games that I didn't list that's for sure!

Sure. Ride to Hell takes the cake though. It has to be played by everybody because it's just so funny. The game is just a huge pile of s***. In my opinion, the worst game you can play on the 360.

Addictive as f*** and only costs a dollar. It's the closest to Harvest Moon on console.

Imagine Clash of Clans with guns and some alterations. I'm not really proud at what I have already spent on this game...(F*cking F2P) And it pisses me off when how sometimes it feels like I HAVE to pay in order to keep up but I ain't spending another goddamn penny on this game!!

With that said, the game is definitely FUN. I could never get into CoC however I tried but i believe this game requires more strategy. Especially with there being a dynamic "Battleline" that you spawn troops behind.

I'm not really proud because of how much I spent on a game like this (You HAVE to if you want to compete) and both times I did pay was purely on impulse.

My guilty pleasure games are Dynasty Warriors and subsequent spinoffs.

I'll go way back:

Pit Fighter for the Sega Genesis

It basically let you do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted in terms of throwing punches and special moves, but I don't think it was a conscious design choice. The result is a barely coherent buggy mess, but it added a level of unpredictability that was just fun for some reason. That said, I'm sure I would hate it now.

Hannah Montana on the 360. Wow, what a ride. Yeah.. not really but lol. I played so many bad achievement games last gen. I'm trying to get away from that this gen but no promises. Some games were so bad they were almost good though. Like you want to keep playing to see how much worse it can get.

The biggest ones I can think of are:

  • Brute Force
  • Conflict Desert Storm
  • Fable 3
  • Two Worlds

"Guilty" is too strong a word -- I've never really felt guilty or embarrassed about enjoying a game -- although I did feel a little awkward, like the odd man out, to be enjoying them. It seemed like everyone around me was lambasting them. But to tell you the truth, I felt glad (not guilty) about being able to enjoy them.

I'm guilty of the first 3 on your list as well. Never played Two Worlds.

The Only one I loved, but would not want someone catching me play was DOA Volleyball 1&2. It's just kind of embarassing...What? Jumping from float to float across a pool with a scantily clad Real Doll is a perfectly hardcore gaming endeavor. I didn't even know she was in a bathing suit until you said something.

There is nothing wrong with a gameplay segment of me not being able to control anything while a girl lays in the sand. Don't judge me.

How is Fable 3 a guilty pleasure? I bought and enjoyed all three games.

People shat upon it. Wasn't hardcore enough, too easy, dumbed down, nadir of the series, yada yada. I enjoyed it for what is was. That's the secret to most of these games -- just enjoying them for what they are, rather than grousing that they aren't something else.

MegaCity XBLIG on 360. $1. Played it to death beating all the challenges and such. I even made some suggestions on their web site for improvements. Great puzzle game.

Also various XBLA and Indie twin stickers...

- Geo Wars 1 and 2
- Biology Battle
- Zombie Estate
- I made a game with zombies in it
- Decimation X
- Score Rush (second best shooter, never been able to clear all stages, got close a few times)
- Grid Space Shooter (best $1 twin shooter ever)
- Probably some more I missed

I don't remember the hate. I do remember a lot of people on my friends list playing it when it came out. Most beat it and moved on. Like you I enjoyed it for what it was. After I beat it I have not played it again, but I had fun playing it.

I remember it getting a lot of scorn on the forums. Undeserved, imo. It was an enjoyable little escapist title. I think Peter (as usual) made it sound better than it actually was, and so you got the backlash. I was surprised people still bought into his sales pitches, after the earlier games. I knew he'd deliver a lightweight, bubblegum RPG, and that's what he did. Those are fine sometimes. It's only a problem if you're expecting something different.

So after conducting a bit of a poll (here and other places) I managed to come up with 7 games that I thought were kind of guilty pleasures. Of course don't just read the titles... you have to read the explanations too! If you're so inclined make sure to leave a comment (there, not here.... well here, but there too) or even SHARE IT! Sharing is caring after all and I know how caring the UnionVGF community is right? RIGHT!?! Anyhow, have a read at the final article!
