With all the hoopla with the frame rate thread about compression and YT clips, can anyone explain this though.....

- In the early stages of YT it was 360p and 480p feeds
- They added 720p
- They added 1080p
- They added 720p/1080p at 60 fps not long ago

What I don't get is sometimes I watch an HD clip at 720p or 1080p, but it looks worse than a DVD quality 480p mode. I'm assuming the guy uploading his feed is using an HD device, so wouldn't 720p and/or 1080p mode look better than 480p mode as the feed is normalized for the higher setting?

Is it a YT issue? Or the user messing up his upload?

It's not just everyday joe guys. This also happens to IGN or big name site feeds.

It could be anything, the source material can be bad. There is a LOT more to video than just resolution.....

Post up an example clip here. Sometimes even when you select 720p or 1080p it can take time to actually switch.

I can't think of any vids off the top of my head and I don't want to random check. But if I run into them I'll post them.

I'm guessing the lower quality footage is from the Xbox One while the HD stuff is from the Wii U.

Who knows. YouTube has always been hit or miss. Depends on the user, what they're using for equipment, and the source material. It sucks when you watch something that's top quality and then the next video is complete trash. Once the standard is set you don't want to go back.

Yeah, that's what doesn't make sense. YT is supposed to be smart enough to know if an upload is HD or not. But then you choose the 720p or 1080p feed and it's as blurry as 360/480 mode.
