4.2 Million PS4s Sold as of December 28th

Wow, impressive. I thought it would be under 4 million, like maybe 3.5 around end of December.

How they managed to sell that much with supplies constrained is beyond me. Everywhere I have went to have no PS4's for sale.
 
Great news for Sony. 4.2 million sales for the PS4 in just over a month is an amazing feat. That's just what they needed.
 
History being made right now. Fastest selling console ever even without Japan in the picture.

Over one million PlayStation 4s sold in 24 hours just in North America. 2.1 million sold over nineteen days as the console also launched in Europe. And now 4.2 million consoles sold world-wide, Sony confirmed today during aCES keynote by Kaz Hirai. Four point two million PlayStation 4s in less than two months. That's makes the PS4 the fastest selling console ever, which is both awesome and terrifying.

Why terrifying? Because the PlayStation 4 has yet to even launch in one of it's likely leading territories -- its home country of Japan. Launching on February 22, recent polls in Japan have shown that when asked which console they would purchase right now if given the option chose the PlayStation 4 second to just the Nintendo 3DS. That is to say, it's almost certain to be a hit in the region. 4.2 million sales is just the starting line.

On top of that, the PlayStation 4 continues to be sold out at retail. Each time online retailers come into stock of the console it's sold in a matter of hours, if not minutes. As yet, Sony has yet to reach the hump where they're putting out enough PS4s to meet demand. When will it stop? Somewhere between 5-10 million seems likely, but the sky is the limit here.

As impressive as the number itself is, it's even more significant when considering Microsoft announced just yesterday that the Xbox One has sold 3.1 million units. Yesterday those numbers seemed awe inspiring. Today, well, they still are, but it makes Sony's extra million sales even more insane. The PlayStation 4 was launched just a week in advance of the Xbox One and has sold 1.1 million more consoles. In less than two months. Together, the Xbox One and PS4 have sold over 7 million pieces of hardware.

It's good to be a gamer. Let's make with the next-gen games already.

well done to Sony with the PS4 but looking at that picture reminds me of the leading up to and releasing the PS3 - arrogance, smug looking.
 
Numbers sound right to me, and there's little doubt, as they are trying to sell in so many more countries, that a supply backlog is no doubt occurring.

Playstation Now is a pretty cool announcement as well. TLoU will be mine in the Summer. .
 
I don't know why people are saying it has no games, it has an almost identical library to the X1, differing only by a handful of exclusives which vary in quality from just good to not worth playing.
To many or most gamers, they are mostly paying attention to COD, EA sports and Assassin's Creed.

I won't say it has no games, but most of th 3rd party games are also available on current gen, so its not so interesting for many people. I can at least speak for myself.

But when Witcher3 is launch, I highly doubt I can resist anymore. Thatis if I can by then find a PS4. As of now, its very hard to find.

True. If you go off the net then its 100% IMPOSSIBLE to buy a PS4 and yet Sony's numbers keep jumping up ;)
 
That's why I said in the other thread that companies probably make their numbers look a tad bit better than they actually are especially when there's competition involved.

Reminds me of Boxing when bob arum said that Paqcuiao's last fight generated somewhere between 500,00-550,000 buys which is really bad for someone who used to generate over a million buys per fight and then HBO said the number was actually 400,000 and change...LOL!

That's business for you.

Maybe both MS and Sony are upping their numbers a bit. They are still selling like hot cakes though.
