SLOWLYYYYYYY BETTER RESOLUTION AND FPS>BETTER FILTERING

Yet none of those things make any meaningful difference.

Graphical differences really don't matter this Gen.

Can I switch on my entertainment center with a single voice command with PS4? Can my wife seemlessly switch to TV with a single voice command the moment I'm done with a gaming session on a PS4? Can I snap a music app while playing a puzzle game on PS4? Do I get seemlessly signed in, regardless of lighting conditions, nearly instantly and near flawlessly with PS4? Can I broadcast my gaming in HD on PS4? Do I get to use the most critically acclaimed controller in the world on PS4? Can I control my PS4 and everything in my living room with my smartphone, tablet, or laptop in tandem with a PS4? Can I use the best version of Skype ever created on PS4?

PS4 has a mild graphical edge, which has no bearing on my entertainment experiences. Xbox One has changed the way I interface with my entertainment forever, to the point where PS4 just feels like a high-res Xbox 360. Xbox One feels like the future, but today.

Keep the 1080p... I don't need it. 900p looks indiscernibly identical on my setup in my living room. I want the best entertainment experience in my living room, and the fact is PS4 just can't compete with what I have, and use daily via Xbox One... That matters. Not pixel counting which the naked eye couldn't clearly discern without a magnification, or a side-by-side comparison.

LOL to this point and anyone who agrees with it.

Honestly, I'm disappointed that the X1 doesn't perform as well, but I understand why, and I'm willing to live with it due to what else it can do better. 720p Twitch broadcasting, for example.

But ultimately, I knew neither system would perform as well as my PC. It's for that reason I upgraded my PC last year, and why I recently bought a 1440p monitor.

HAhaha... yep. I thought as much. Not able to defend your position on the merits of the position itself, so instead you resort to picking on others. Rock on, man. Score. Well done.

...bottom line, the only game which does have a meaningful difference (in my mind) is Tombraider. I'd rather have the 50+ variable frame rate, rather than a locked 30fps... heck, I would have preferred a 720p version at a solid, locked 60fps. That's what I would have preferred. I'll always take a meaningful jump in frame rate over resolution above 720p.

...but 100% of all cross platform games still give me the better experience on Xbox One, because of Kinect and a better OS. I can snap things, I can switch on my whole system with voice (and turn it all off with voice), I always have a second screen (usually a third) and using those for remotes/adjusting volume/etc. - it's the future... my gaming is always better on Xbox One, and PS4 has a long way to go to catch up there... in many areas, it just can't compete *ever* without some sort of add-on.

Not to mention, X1 has more/better non-indie games/exclusives. Better games library, better living room experience... *FAR* outweighs the graphical edge PS4 enjoys.

There's nothing PS4 can do X1 cannot... but there's plenty PS4 can't do the Xbox One can...

<back on topic> Glad to see the X1 version seems to be the predominantly preferred one... totally liking that. :) ...though for me personally, the graphical discrepancies are meaningless.

I have it on PC as both versions are subpar in comparison.
Which monitor are you using?

No I picked on the sillyness/pointlessness and pro bashing of the PS4 in your response to me.
Tomb Raider isn't locked @ 30fps lol keep it up.
Nothing the PS4 can do that the XBO can't eh? U must not be paying attention...I won't point out examples as I think the XBO has enough heat and I am not here to bash a product I am a fan of.

What bashing of the PS4? Is it bashing to simply state the facts about what it can and cannot do? I think you need to re-read what I typed - I wasn't bashing the PS4 - it's a fine machine - I was simply pointing out that graphical advantages have demonstrably been proven to be insignificant, and immaterial when considering the differences between gaming experiences in all but one case. How is that bashing?

Tomb Raider isn't locked @ 30fps lol keep it up.

Poorly worded on my part. When I said it was locked at 30fps, I meant it was 'capped' at 30fps... meaning that it'll never go higher than 30fps, not meaning to imply that it was 'locked at 30fps' in that the frame rate was always perfectly running at 30fps... but no intended misleading there, just a bad choice of words.

Nothing the PS4 can do that the XBO can't eh? U must not be paying attention...I won't point out examples as I think the XBO has enough heat and I am not here to bash a product I am a fan of.

Oh, I'm paying attention more than most... and while it's a bit hyperbolic to claim there's *nothing* PS4 can do the X1 can't, what I mean by saying that is that there's no experience which cannot be identically or virtually identically replicated on X1... but the reverse is not true. PS4 cannot snap apps. PS4 cannot blast the room with IR to control your living room. PS4's controller (while being much better than PS3's) is still widely considered worse than X1's. The seamless logging in with any lighting conditions, the HD broadcasting, instant TV switching... the guide, the SmartGlass experiences - PS4 can't do it. There's nothing on PS4 that can even try to compete with those.

To be fair, PS4's Vita streaming is an interesting little side venture, but the vita install base is nothing compared to smartphones, tablets, and PC's... and I'd never want a vita. Way too much for a device like that... besides, I don't need or want another pocket device. My phone is more than sufficient.

Those entertainment points are useless to me. I bought a gaming console to game on not to use it as some all in one media box. I want to watch TV, I switch input to my tv box. I want to Skype? I use my phone or laptop/PC etc. everything you've listed are not needed or is a subjective opinion.

I'll take the graphical edges over your features any day because at the end of the day, I buy a gaming console to game and obviously I want the best console versions. All the extra features and voice commands are a convenience not a necessity.

Ironically, the xbox one had worse features as an all-in-one media box than the PS4 from that DF article. Have they fixed that yet in the new update?

That graphical edge is looking a bit dull with the latest news as of late. Watchdogs at 960p, Thief being the better @ 900p, Sniper at 1080p etc. Yessir! That edge is getting pretty dull. And who is DF again? Oh, thats right! Dumb f***s! :p DF are becoming the annoying nerd on the high school football team.

None of the features I listed are "subjective opinion". Factually, they're all there.

Also, the features I mentioned don't just make media better, several directly impact gaming:

Seamless sign-in gets me into my games faster/better.

Voice commands get me into the games I want to play faster than a controller.

The Xbox One controller is better for games than the PS4 controller. Yes, that's subjectively true - but popular opinion shows it's better.

The X1 controller objectively has better battery life, which keeps you in games longer/better.

Kinect ensures split screen gaming experiences are better.

No, you can't claim X1's features beyond PS4 only benefit non-gaming. That's objectively false.

The edge will always be there. I don't mind if Xbox One catches up with some games but the graphical edge will always be there for multiplatform titles because the hardware specs speak for themselves.

Hardware specs are what they are. Its the games that will speak for those the loudest. You gotta admit. Microsoft does amazing things with software however. Those provide an edge as well, as we've been seeing for three generations. Its just beginning on the X1.

They are subjective opinions because you claim that these so-called features are what differentiates your product with the competition's. What if one doesn't care about these features? Again, they are optional and not necessary, merely there for convenience factors.

This isn't a race, you don't need to compare getting into games faster. Besides, I bet I could probably get into the game faster than you can say the voice commands out loud. Don't you have to speak the whole game name out? I could press A, A, A and get into the game like that. You probably take longer to say "Xbox, play Dead Rising 3" than press the button 3 times.

Where are you getting your popular opinions from? Both are good controllers, you can't argue one is better than the other because there is no measure to do so. It's better because of what exactly?

Battery life, we've gone through this already. You're not going to play your games for 24 hours straight. At most, a few hours then take a break. In the meantime, just plug it in, no big deal.

I don't know how Kinect can ensure split screen experience is better? And what games that are out right now actually utilize this better coop feature?

Yes, I can claim that because you know what's the good thing about opinions? Everybody has one. If one doesn't care about them, they don't factor into their decision-making processes.

Yes, and most of these multiplatform games will be better on the 4 simply because of the hardware gap. Of course games speak the loudest, that's why I went with Sony because last gen, that's where all the games I was interested in were going. 360 fell off after the first half of its life cycle.

With the way things are going, it looks like we are going to continue to see the X1 with at least 900p resolutions in which I have no doubt will be near indistinguishable against games in 1080p. And this is coming from an entertainment console with multiple features built in with the hardware. Thats impressive.

Yet I would give up all that useless crap for a 256gb SSD (which would actually get me in games faster and help them play better) in the XB1 instead of 500GB slow ass mechanical HDD W/Kinect.

Point being that none of those features make gaming better (seriously, who plays split screen anymore?) or faster, they just make it easier. I can pick up my PS3 controller (or my PC mouse) and be in a game in less than 5 seconds, kinect does what? shaves 1 second off that time? You still need to pick up the controller so now instead of starting the game once you have the controller in hand you can start it as you pick it up.

Yeah, definitely worth an extra $100 for inferior hardware.

That's great if they can do that. I've previously said that if Xbox One games can all be at 900p, then Xbox One owners should be happy. I'll stick with 1080p and better performance. ;)

Whats going to be an absolute riot, is when the games will be indistinguishable regardless of 900p or 1080p, and there will be those who state, "Guys! Dont use your eyes! Think about the resolutions!!":laugh::laugh:

I'd read that comment on GAF. I 'bout died that day! I think I even saw Jeezah!

Transplanted this discussion from the Thief thread, since it is really a separate subject.

My own opinion - I'll take an edge in game performance/looks over entertainment features. The latter aren't all that important to me. I buy a gaming console primarily for gaming.

This is true. But theres something to be said about an entertainment console thats winning major awards from even non-gaming magazines, websites and major news papers around the country. One is getting a ton of spotlight. The other? Not so much....

First off, you're wrong. A better controller makes games better. A worse controller makes games worse, but I'll give you that most of the other features make the experience faster/easier, and not necessarily 'higher quality' (as such).

In any case, you're in the vast, vast minority, unfortunately, and consoles probably aren't your best bet. As proven beyond a shadow of any doubt - a decently equipped PC will destroy the perf on these current gen consoles, so if you're counting pixel differences between PS4 and X1, then surely (if you're living consistently) you should game on a PC primarily (for anything which is multiplat). You'll *always* get the most graphically impressive version... not to mention, you could equip the PC with SSD to your heart's content.

Sony and MS didn't make consoles which can directly compete with PC. They're more budget machines.

What's actually pretty funny is paying extra $100 for entertainment features and weaker gaming performance but whatever floats your boat.

Oh yeah, selling 6 million in 4 months is so last gen. This gen, it's all about the awards. ;)

That's great and I'm sure that should help boost the Xbox One in sales. I hope so because this gen needs to maintain that healthy competition that benefits us as consumers.

Resolutions/performance of course, not the main reason I buy a gaming system but I definitely don't buy a console
for entertainment features.

Gaming performance/resolution definitely. This is a gaming forum afterall.

Thats because there's never been one quite like what we have now.

Lol, seriously. I've seen you say this so many times. Other than multitasking, how has there been nothing like it before?

You can add in entertainment features later, its a bit hard to improve the hardware halfway through the generation.
