Official Thread Sunset Overdrive

Only 2 more Sunset TV shows left.

Looks like Insomniac are officially finished with the game.

Finally got the game...

And Oh my lordy! Only 4 hours in, and its such pure fun! Still coming to terms with staying moving at all times, but what a blast!

I came from Shadows of Mordor, and was feeling a bit flat with that, and BOOM! COLOUR AND STICKY FUN SHOOTING ALL OVER MY FACE!

s***! I just got the game from amazon for $25 a week or so ago. I dunno if it's just that my hype for the witcher is diluting all game experiences for me or what but I haven't been digging it really. Haven't played it much but what I have played I've been kinda "meh" about... I'm not super surprised, I was never very interested in the game to begin with but it was only $25 and I'd heard good things so I thought wth......

Yeah, I've only played about half an hour or so, but I'm feeling pretty "meh" about it, too. Not saying it's a bad game, just that it doesn't appeal to me. Seems like it's a game built for an audience half my age with twice my energy. Shooting zombie hordes elicits nothing but a yawn at this point, and I don't like the the Jet Set Radio movement or the music or the world. Feels too spastic and cartoonish to me. I'll stick with it a while longer, see if it clicks.

Lol How old are you Andy? :p

I love that it takes me back to JSRF. That was my most played Xbox game back in the day. Even the s***ty music is doing it for me.

And the character I made looks freakishly like me. If only I could get Samuel L Jackson to sell me weapons...

I'm pretty old. I cracked the half-century mark a while ago. It's part of why the game feels a little too frantic and teen/20-something for me.

I never got into Jet Set myself. I did like punk rock, though ... the original stuff, that is ... but I can't listen to it anymore.

I caught Sunset overdrive on a sale recently. Not bad. Definitely enough to keep me playing. I needed a game that didn't take itself to seriously and this is doing the trick.

No shame in that Andy. I'm craving something juvenile at the moment, so I completely understand where you're coming from.

I think its a part of the reason why I felt opressed in Shadows of mordor.

I love the customisations in this game! And the explosions make me want to make out with Michael Cera! You guys feel that too, yeah? ;)

It's kind of ironic, because I enjoy Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank series, a game arguably targeted at 12 year olds, so it's not about being too old, exactly. There's just something about the demographic and style here that doesn't connect with me. I think it's a combination of a generational thing and some temperament/personality issues (I'm generally a low-key guy, so all the colorful action and movement feels a bit "busy" and frantic to me).

Uh, no, lol. But I do understand what you mean about needing a break from games with a dark, oppressive style. That's one of the nice things about S.O. -- the "up" mood and all the vibrant colors. I did like that.

This is a really good game, and the colorful style definitely helps it stand out. Also, it's one of those games that gets better the more you play it. Once you get better at using the controls, and especially get access to air dash, the game becomes much more enjoyable.

My only issue is that I bought it digitally at full price. That's something I regret since I've felt very little urge to return to the game once I finished it.

Good game once you get the hang of the controls. The colour pallet and explosions are beautiful

I can't believe this game didn't have more of a fuss made about it. Only 20 hours or so in, but damn! Its ah may zing!

I love the "we are trying wayyyy too hard to appear tongue in cheek, and in no way trying too hard" humour of the game. Makes me want a new Rare game!

When they first showed the cinematic trailer for this game, it looked incredible. Then when I actually played a multiplayer match (defending the pump thing), at E3, I was completely let down. After getting better with the movement, and playing the single player, I loved the game.

I tried this today and it is way too hectic and I do not like how you have to keep moving all the time. The concept, weapons etc is pretty cool but it just isnt for me.

Yeah, I can see how its not for everyone. Especially once you unlock all of the movement methods. You rarely touch the ground.

There was a game on the og Xbox I think, called Gun Valkyrie, and if you got used to the controls (which were horrible for a Sega game) touching the ground was taboo.

My friend was watching me play it and he was like "Did you know those rails were going to be there before you jumped off the tower?" Nope! You just get used to using every surface possible while launching rockets like a mofo!

I've gone back to this for a little bit until The Witcher gets patched a bit more. I don't know if its just my copy, but it keeps giving me a headache when I play. :'(

Just a heads up:

Played Sunset at all? Even during the free trials? Be sure to check your Xbox messages. There may be some free goodies waiting for you!

Had a code waiting for me in my messages this afternoon. It is called the Fizzco Loyalty Rewards Pack.

I got the Fizzle email too. And all I did was play Sunset once when they had some kind of a 24 hr free trial.

It's a download pack that involves 7 things.

Yep got the message last night. Ive beaten the game/side missions but still have plenty of collecting, DLC, and MP to play so new stuff is great, and it includes a couple items I wanted anyways but didn't come with the deluxe edition.

I got a code as well. Never even played the game. All I did was partially download the free trial.

I've always wanted to try this game, but was always worried that it'd be too repetitive for me. I'll probably snag it when it gets below $20.

Beat the game and all the dlc. Enjoyed the game but too many side challenges and a lot of them had to be played perfect or else you have to start over which was annoying.

A sequel should tone down the side quests and add even more of the funny humor it already had. :)

I've had Sunset Overdrive on my hdd since right around Christmas when it went on sale for $30. I got too wrapped up in Halo MCC and FIFA 15 and really didn't put too much time into the game until recently.

For those who think its too hectic and aren't sure about the traversal system I would tell you to be patient. I was in the same boat originally but after you play through about 3-4 hours of the game you get more used to it and new moves are unlocked that increase your ability to travel across the map more quickly. You will gain to ability to bounce higher by hitting the A button right as you bounce. You will eventually be able to ground pound attack into a jump by hitting the jump button right as you hit the groud....this will let you keep your chain going. You will also eventually unlock the air dash which lets you dash forward mid-air and can help you get across long gaps without hitting the ground....a lot of the times you will see a wire you want to grind on which is just out of reach and having the air dash will help you get to the wire and keep the chain going. I've yet to get the achievement for string 100 straight moves but I'm itching to try it now that I know it exists.

There definitely is a lot of chaos, especially with the night defense missions, but, as you unlock more weapons and traps they get a little easier as well. And, there are a million different side challenges and collectibles around the city. I've been playing it for about 10 hours at this point and I fell like I've barely seen the tip of the iceberg.

No Plans To Release Sunset Overdrive On Any Other Platform

http://gamingbolt.com/insomniac-no-...on-any-other-platform-rc-trilogy-ps4-unlikely

We have no plans to release Sunset Overdrive on any other platform. We also don’t discuss contracts,” Vitti stated. Vitti also debunked rumors about the game selling only about 300,000 odd copies. “Not sure where you got those sales numbers from (they are not accurate in the slightest), but neither Microsoft nor us release sales numbers.”

Hopefully that means it sold well enough on the xb1 to warrant a sequel, if not, they should release it on at least pc. Really great game that I want to a sequel for.
