Two and Three were just cash-grabs, though. I never expected them to be any good. Only the original had an actual book to support it as source material. And it was intended to touch on philosophies on things like war, civic virtue and suffrage, though I'm sure you'd have to read the book to get the full effect, as the movie just felt like a cheesy sci-fi film to me.

I'm actually pretty surprised when I came into the forum and there was no mention of this movie. I thought surely this would get some love on a gaming forum.

As should be known, it's an adaptation from the book by Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game. It is one the big hitters in the sci-fi genre and one of my all time favorites.

Let's get to the review. A- if you read the book, B- if you didn't.

As great as the book is, the movie is actually a very noble effort. It stays true to the book in just about every aspect and manages to convey the internal turmoils of Ender as well as the underlying theme of the book. Action sequences are used sparingly but are well done. The cast has an acceptable performance which leaves us free to enjoy the story without any bad performance. So if you read the book, I would highly recommend it.

However, if you have not read it, it's a different story. The effects are good but not mind blowing. The story is above average but nothing a good sci-fi film doesn't have. The plot and character development feels rushed. But it is still a good sci-fi film that will keep you entertained and worth your money.

I was actually surprised by how good the book was when I finally got around to reading it. I also read [and enjoyed] the direct-sequel, Ender In Exile. I thought the rest of the books were sh*t, though.

Were there any glaring omissions from the film adaptation?

Nice to get a review on this. I read the book a long time ago and thought the previews to this movie actually looked promising.

I might try to see this next week.

It's been a long time since I've read it but from what I remember the director did a good job of keeping all the important parts in there. Actually it might even have hurt it for nonreaders as some parts seem out of place and raunchy as is the case with "the game" ender finds on his pda. In the movie seems it was added in a rush but in the book is well done an helps character development.
The things that did not make it was all of the battles in the training room as in the whole movie they only use the room like 3 times. But no worries as it still manages to capture all the important moments.

Okay here is a chance for people to help me on my Homework. But this can be an interesting topic in general to.

Basically, one of my college classes is Introduction to Network Security. I guess to mix things up, the teacher came up with this assignment to do a movie paper that somehow features using technology to steal information.

Topics that you might address:
  • Describe the computer system/ network that is being breached.
  • Describe the hacker’s background knowledge of computers.
  • How did the hacker gain access?
  • What actions did the hacker take?
  • What were the consequences of the system/ network breach?
  • How was the situation remedied?
  • Were any new protocols put in place to prevent future breaches?
List of suggested movies my teacher posted:
• WarGames (1983)
• Hackers (1995)

• Takedown (aka Track Down) (2000)

• Antitrust (2001)

• Eagle Eye (200:cool:

• Live Free or Die Hard 4.0 (2007)

• The Matrix (1999)

• The Thirteenth Floor (1999)

• The Italian Job (2003)

• Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol (2011)

• The Score (2001)

• Foolproof (2003)

• Golden Eye (1995)

• Sneakers (1992)

• The Conversation (1974)

• Tron (1982)

• 23 (199:cool:

• Swordfish (2001)

• The Net 2.0 (2006)

• War Games: The Dead Code (200:cool:

• Breach (2007)

• Firewall (2006)

• Enemy of the State (199:cool:

• Independence Day (1996)

• Weird Science (1985)

Out of this list, Sneakers seems fairly straightforward. The movie features a Security Testing team that gets caught up in a mess with organized crime.

I also wondered if I should use The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and if so which version? (I'm mostly interested in the portrayal of Hacking) I haven't seen any version of this movie but I hear the girl is a computer hacker. Does that play a major part of this movie?

You rated Scarface higher than The Godfather..not sure I can take you seriously anymore :p j/k. Is that just the first one though? or did you count it as the series?

I don't know. I think my concert going days are over for the most part. Last thing I ever went to was Ozzfest back in high school. Something like GWAR would probably be up my alley. Stuff with costumes and props in general. Even then, not likely.

The American remake of TGWTDT was done very well. She does some 'hacking' and snooping in it. Terminator 2 has some quick scenes of number hacking. Steve Jobs: The lost interview has segments about him phreaking.

There was some hacking in Real Genius too, if you're looking for an example where they physically replaced a computer component with one that allowed access.

Most of them show the worst crap for hacking, like hackers... what OS's are these guys supposed to be using?!
If they showed exactly how hacking is it would be boring as all hell on screen.

I was going to post about how lame it is in swordfish and hackers earlier, but you're completely right, if they showed how it actually is it would be an instant snooze fest. So they HAVE to use these crazy OS and stupid animations to make it look "cool".

I understand that, but wow did they embellish a bit more than they needed to. And the phrases the actors were spewing while hacking were horrendous.

But you have to give them a little of a break considering the year the movie was made, most people didn't even know the word "hacking" was anything but something Jason did with his machete.
