Gamescom (Aug 17-21)

A few indie games that stood out at Gamescom:

Outreach

"Taking place in the Cold War, Outreach sees you filling the boots of a lone Soviet astronaut as she attempts to discover what happened to a space station that’s gone ominously quiet. ... We only saw a brief snippet of the game, but from open-ended narrative to nail-biting zero gravity segments, we’re definitely intrigued."

Developers are aiming for release on PC and PS4 by the end of the year.

Forma 8

"Metroidvania games have a reputation for being hard and intense affairs. Largely defined by steep difficulty curves and punishing gameplay, the developers of forma.8 have wisely decided to give the genre a much needed chill pill. ... Floating around feels great and the calming soundtrack really help take the stress out of a genre that often values difficulty over fun. Colour us cautiously optimistic."

For PS4 and Vita.

Yooka-Laylee

"Created by a new studio formed of talent from beloved publisher Rare, Yooka-Laylee’s mission is to single-handedly resurrect the 3D platformer of your childhood. ....Featuring suitably corny dialogue and a big and clumsy UI, Playtonic games have done their best to bring back the innocent and charming platformer of the '90s. ... We can’t wait to see how the rest of this grin-inducing adventure shapes up."

Coming to PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC. Q1 2017.

Amazing thing is that during E3 2013, Future Shop and Best Buy Canada put up their pre-order games.

Below was one of them..... at $59.99?!?!?!

Edit: Holy shiit, I just checked now. Pre-order page at $74.99. This game has been on pre-order status for over 3 years! lol

Cool, I always love a Remedy game. :bang:

And the "Boxart not final" thing makes me think that if they do a version of the Political Machine game for this election, they should just have a black box like that, and say: "Box art final. Please clap."

Pirinha Bytes' (Risen) new game is Elex, which is some kind of science fiction dinosaur hybrid. Here is some pre-alpha footage. Looks fairly dull to me.

Looks great. Throw in some good missions and a decent storyline, and you've got a winner.

Honestly, if they keep adding complexity and features, it could just be the ultimate game. Adventure, quests, space flight, and what looks like decent First person shooting! It's pretty amazing the scope going into it. One thing is for sure, I don't think we will see it on Current gen consoles.

That was the multiplayer mmo part called Star Citizen that was shown which will consist of 100 systems.
The single player game is called Squadron 42 and is due out end of this year although most fans expect a delay of at least 6 months. They'll be showing Squadron 42 in October at Citizencon. In Squadron 42 you're in the (space navy), actors who were involved in the motion capture include Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill, Ser Davos (GoT), and Gimli (LOTR) forgot their names.
I know I might come across like I'm shilling for the game but as someone who's been following the game for the last 3 years, this game imo is one of the top games coming out and I think a lot of people are going to be blown away when it does.

I appreciate you bringing the info. I'd heard about Star Citizen but never paid much attention since I considered it a PC-only game. I didn't even realize that's the online MMO portion of a different game, Squadron 42 (first I've heard of that). I also didn't realize it had a reasonable chance of coming to next-it consoles. I hope it does. I love me a good space yarn.

Outreach sounds promising. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a $60 full release and end up like No Man's Sky. We'll have to rename it Overreach.

Capy just said they "are going dark" for a bit. Game still under development, so looks like 2016 is out of the question.

And this game was shown first in 2013. This game looks destined to be vapourware. I'd say about 50% chance of vapourware.

Sucks. I played the game at PAX and it seemed like it was at a pretty good point. The graphics were really good, the gameplay seemed pretty tight for what combat I encountered and the music while sparse was haunting. I only got to play about a half hour, but really liked what I played, hopefully it'll see the light of day.

So dissapointing. I'd love to know what is actually causing it to take this long/never release.

Star Citizen looks really great but highly intimidating, especially for those of us that aren't Flight sim buffs.
