There probably won't be a whole lot of news coming out of this Gamescom, but I thought I'd put up a thread anyhow. It's only a week and a half away. It runs Aug. 17 to 21.

Sony, MS, and Nintendo are not holding press conferences. MS is having an Xbox Fanfest (see below). None of the consoles (NX, Scorpio, Neo) are expected to appear.

Noticed Below isn't on that list. When the hell are they going to release that game?!

So basically a low key E3 to show off some gameplay for these games. Cool for Xbox fans i guess.

Should be a chance to get a further look at some of the games coming out soon: Dishonored 2, Deus Ex, FFXV, Gears, Forza, Mafia, TLG, Recore...

With the Neo reveal on Sept 7th, and the MS event in October, Gamescom just got a lot less interesting.

And it wasn't very interesting to begin with. Damn.

Oh, I heard that because of recent events, you can't bring fake weapons into Gamecom. I think that's the real tragedy of terrorism: it interferes with cosplay.

I can't imagine MS NOT showing off Scprpio if they are bothering with their own event...

They won't. I don't want to get any of my inside sources in trouble, but I've heard that the event is basically MS introducing Clippy from office as their new XBox mascot, and that they're going to give away Halo 5 to all Gold members, but the guns in the game are all being replaced with giant paper-clip projectile shooters. Unfortunately, it also means that Crackdown 3 is now Clipdown, but the good news is that the new game mechanic is coming that lets you clean up destroyed environments by paper clipping them back together.

And if you thought the "gotta catch 'em all" vibe of Pokémon is addictive, wait until you see the new IP Clipchaser (that's a code name, and it's probably a porn site so it's probably a bad name, but still).

They'll probably release it after they figure out how to make your character and monsters one pixel in size.

Not too much I'm looking forward to. Hopefully some good info about Star Citizen in terms of a release date for Squadron 42. One of the Twitch streamers I watch was invited to their event so that should be interesting.

I'm surprised that there isn't more hyper for Dishonoured 2.

The first was brilliant Beyond my expectations, and somehow made its brutality seem charming. Give it a go if you haven't played it, peeps.
There's a lot of repkay value in it too.

I installed it a month ago or on Steam but haven't gotten to it yet. Think I should be able to squeeze it in once I'm done with my current game and before my fall marathon of horror games.

This is labelled a Gamescom trailer, so I'll put it here, since I don't think it warrants its own thread, but it looks kinda cool.

Oceanhorn
is coming to Xbox and PS4 on Sept. 7th. About 3 weeks from now.

"Oceanhorn has taken influence from both Zelda and Final Fantasy as a game that combines captivating storytelling, breathtaking 3D visuals and exciting gameplay into one massive action adventure experience you will possibly never forget."

Ok, that's probably overselling it a bit. Here's the trailer. You'll see that they're playing up the Zelda angle quite a bit (e.g., 0:33).

Features of Oceanhorn are as follows:
  • Zelda-like 3d action adventure gameplay
  • Music from legendary Nobuo Uematsu and Kenji Ito
  • 10+ hours of story driven content
  • Melee and Magic combat system
  • Several side activities like fishing

I don't know, looks kind of fun. Not sure if I'll have time for it or not, but I might check it out.

So far the only thing I'm looking forward to is the Sea of Thieves livestream. I'm hoping they show some new gameplay.

Otherwise I'm not expecting anything new for any system.....right? I mean I don't think I've heard/seen anything new expected to be announced there...?

Looks awesome.

Not sure why the sailing is 3D and the land based gameplay is isometric though.

The thumbnail of this game caught my eye after the Oceanhorn video finished playing. Looks like something I've been wanting for a long time. 16bit type games with amazing modern art.

Mount and Blade II gameplay. Looks kind of janky but maybe fun in MP for a while.

Reveal trailer for Blackwood Crossing, a story-driven adventure game coming to PS4, X1, and PC.

I have this game on my phone. Okay game, but expect to spend most of your time trying to figure what to do.

I just watched the Gamescom Everspace trailer and it looks fantastic. I've been wanting a space shooter for a while now, they seem to be popular on PC but not so much on consoles. I'm not fan of "Rogue-Like" elements because they can be punishing. But I've read this game won't be as unforgiving and will have a dedicated mode for those who like to be punished when they die in a game. I'm not a fan of that type of gaming.

This game is scheduled for release on Xbox Game Preview Program and PC on 9/14. The full release is scheduled for sometime in early 2017. And the price will be $30 and will jump to $40 when the full release hit sometime next year. I've never purchased anything from from the Xbox preview program but I will get this game in the hopes it satisfies my need for a space shooter.

Apparently this is a timed Xbox game with a PS4 release coming about six months later. I hope it comes sooner than that to PS4 because this game is supposed to support VR and for me that would be a huge reason why I should get PSVR.

Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom. Slated for release on PS4, X1, and PC by the end of the year, although no specific release date.

Looks ok. I'm not too thrilled about the character designs. Feels too kiddie for me. I like the fantasy adventure genre, though, so who knows.

Capy just said they "are going dark" for a bit. Game still under development, so looks like 2016 is out of the question.

And this game was shown first in 2013. This game looks destined to be vapourware. I'd say about 50% chance of vapourware.

http://www.gamesradar.com/below-del...-says-its-going-dark-until-the-game-is-ready/

Below was one of the first indie games announced for Xbox One. Developed bySuper Time Force developer Capybara Games, the top-down, dungeon crawling, Souls-like game was announced by way of a gorgeous reveal trailer at E3 2013. Three years later however, Capy has just announced that the game will be delayed indefinitely.

"We did a lot of soul searching. We knew we wanted to get it into your hands as soon as possible. We knew the game was there, and we’re super proud of it, but we also knew it needed more time to make sure it lives up to our studio’s standards, and the quality that you expect from our games," the studio wrote on its blog.

"Instead of giving you a new, loose release window, we will be going dark while we take the time that we need to complete Below without compromise. The next time you see a major Below update, that means our game has a firm release date, which we’ll share."
