Seems like it, yeah. They're everywhere I've been.

I'm getting into this game now. I'm having that familiar feeling of being hooked on an open world, wanting to do just a little more...

One nice surprise has been the gas. I heard some reviewers complain about running out of gas quickly. They made it sound like it was a pain in the ass. I'm not finding it to be that way at all. I like the tension it adds to the game, having to watch your fuel level.

I'm liking the characters and voice acting too, so far. There are plenty of distinct personalities.

I do see some bugs now and then, and some clunky visual transitions, but they don't bother me. I can see it getting marked down for that, but it's something I can usually disregard.

It'll be nice to see what Sony Bend can do with a sequel. Sales data continues to look good -- it's #1 in Japan for the second week in a row and #1 in its first week across most of Europe. We won't have NPD data for a while, but all indications are that it's doing well.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the fuel, it's something to be mindful of but it's not intrusive at all, same thing with the bike damage, they did a really good job with that. One thing I'm sure you've noticed but I'm just throwing this out there anyway lol if you fast travel it does drain the same amount of gas from your tank that you would have used driving to the location so that's just something for everyone to be mindful of.

I haven't used fast travel yet, but that's good to know.

I had to turn the game down to easy, because I was running out of supplies and getting myself killed too often. I'm not really looking for an edge-of-your-seat survival experience. I'd rather have a more relaxed game. I'll turn it back up again if it gets too easy.

Yeah if you stay away from hordes you should be ok, you can use stealth for most of the enemy camps, this is the first game in I don't know how long where I don't mind using stealth, just make sure to use the survival vision often to check for traps.

Biggest glitch I've run into so far is the audio not matching up with the animations/subtitles. It happened in the mission (fairly early after unlocking second encampment)
You have to find the young girl
. I haven't played beyond to know if it continues, but I did close the game to see if that helps going forward.

That is somewhat of a recurring problem for me, but it's inconsistent i.e. doesn't happen every time or always in the same place...

#1 in the UK, 3rd week in a row.
http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019...ays_gone_is_number_one_for_third_week_running

I really like the game. I'm catching on to the systems -- how the camps work, the Nero outposts, the upgrades, the different storylines (that part is a little confusing, because there are so many going on at once), the different characters, etc. It took me a while, but I'm getting a feel for the game.

I really like the feel of the motorcycle. Sliding around curves in the rain, taking jumps ... good stuff. The bike handles really well. I'm looking forward to upgrading, so I can get the deep budda-budda-budda engine.

The story and characters are good so far. Characters are very distinct, with individual personalities. Some of the cutscene transitions are awkward, but oh well, not a big deal. The writing is better than most games, and Deacon is an interesting if not particularly likeable guy. His voice actor really does a good job. There was one flashback scene that felt fake to me, but otherwise the storytelling has been good enough to get me invested, stir my emotions at times, and keep me interested.

I'm finding the world pretty immersive. I like the natural environment a lot. I like how you travel over the same roads repeatedly. I get to know the territory that way. It's a big world, so there's no shortage of places to explore, if you want to do that. I'm sticking to the missions, for the most part.

Finally was able to play for a bit. Got to the first encampment. Hopefully I will get a chance to play this more on Wednesday.

Note that's lifetime sales, not just sales after 2 weeks. That's pretty impressive, although it is just Japan, so we're talking small numbers. Japan must like zombie games.

The animals can be kind of BS in this game. Shouldn't take 4-5 rounds to kill a wolf, including one shot to the head.

Wolves go down pretty easy, the infected wolves seem to take a bit more. Melee a regular wolf and they will go down in one hit.

Are they all infected? Seriously I usually rock the bat with saw now and it still takes two or three hits to kill. I have the MRW or whatever the bullpup design gun is and that also takes several shots to kill. Even the M40 took me a couple as well. I get having bears be something like a mini boss but a regular ass wolf should be dead with a well place shot from the M40.

Also kind of silly is zombies Matrixing your shots or melee hits, but I'm willing to ignore that if these are supposed to more intelligent than your regular shuffling zombies.

They aren't zombies, they are alive :) As far as the infected wolves you can tell when you look at them which ones are healthy and which ones are infected, the infected ones can catch you on your bike going top speed. Two hits with a bat isn't all that rough to take down a wolf infected or not though.

Only time I've seen infected wolves then is when chasing a helicopter in a mission.

didn't realize this was out. Its time to dust off my playstation I think.

The game got a lot of flak for being an open-world game, which I didn't really understand. I don't understand it even more, now that I'm playing it. It doesn't feel like a cookie-cutter Ubisoft open world. It doesn't feel like other checklist-based, artificial-feeling open worlds. It feels different from other open world games ... or maybe I should say it feels like a GOOD open world game. There is something very organic about how the world feels. I can't explain it very well, but there's something that feels real about it.

I've been surprised at the emotional tugs I've felt several times in the story. It's better than I expected.

And I love the main theme, the one that plays on the menu screen. It's stuck in my head.

One thing that to me doesn't feel organic about the world is how segregated the various biomes are. You have to go through a tunnel to get to a different region and suddenly the environment is totally different, it doesn't feel like a very natural transition.

That theme plays if you equip the dynamic theme as well, the guy who composed the soundtrack did a great job.

I haven't noticed that. I'll have to pay closer attention next time I go through a tunnel...

Ah, I'll have to check out that dynamic theme. I agree, the soundtrack is really good.

Also:

"On Days Gone, this involved a lot of back and forth with the brilliant Sony music team. They would design these interactive systems and I would write music to fit in that system. For example, I would write music in layers so that all the layers together sounded like a cohesive piece of music but the game engine could selectively turn layers off or on based on what’s happening in the game. That’s a little oversimplified but the result was a score that felt more like it was scored linearly, like a film, but it was responding dynamically to the action. It’s a big additional layer to the process that film and TV don’t have."

I guess some people got an email after they platinum'd the game that gave them a code to redeem a special ps4 theme. I plat'd the game in less than a week and haven't gotten one...

This game is in the 8.5 range for me, so far.

Glad it's selling well.

Something feels odd visually with this update. Like there is more blur than normal, or the resolution isn't as good. I'm not sure if the game is 4K or not, but my understanding is that it had supersampling for those on 1080p still, and it definitely felt like it. But after this update it just looks different.

I'm also going to take a break from the game. Just starting to get on my nerves lately with. It's mostly small things but it's adding up. For instance, found a small horde, which I didn't realize it was until it was too late, but I only aggro'd a small portion so no issues. Until I went to grab more ammo and it wouldn't let me take any from my saddlebag. So I figure what the hell lets try it anyways. Start attacking more, and then I run into issues with the weapon wheel. Like I want to craft more Molotovs, except when I point in that direction, now it has selected pipe bombs instead. Please have the previously selected grenade or attractor set to the middle so I don't have to point over, then down or up again. When you're in a bind trying not to get overrun it's just a pain. Then throw in trying to aim at enemies nearby and it's the classic third person issue of not being able to aim at something one foot in front of you.

Game is still fun and I'm enjoying the story, but I need a break. It's off to Rage 2 before I really rage.

Yeah the weapon wheel is always touchy when there are a lot of options in that section, I've found it easier to stretch my left thumb over instead of trying to use the right.

Yeah I wasn't really a big fan of the expanding "survival wheel" as they call it. I much prefer Red Dead/ Far Cry's multi-tab wheel design. Imagine if all the weapons and consumables were on one wheel, and all traps & throwables on the 2nd wheel you tab over to with R1? I think that could have been a more intuitive and easy to use system than holding a direction for a second and then fine tuning in that direction for a specific item... especially when you then have to hold R1 to craft the item or R2 to use it? It got cumbersome at times for sure....

Finished it tonight, I'd give it an 8, if they could patch out a few things that annoyed me I'd go up to an 8.5 but this is a very good game for sure, anyone who knocked it in a review for having a white male lead or complained about the biker theme was never going to give it a fair shot anyway. It's crazy when you watch the credits how much shorter they are than the typical open world game, this studio accomplished a lot for such a relatively small group.

As far as the update, maybe it's just me but I notice more foliage fading in closer to the camera than before.
