I liked the story in the first one, but i don't like the the whole zombie and limited ammo Resident evil style games so I never really finished it.
My best friend (total casual gamer) totally loved the first one. He never finishes games, but he finished the first, and bought the special edition of tlou2. TLOU is his favorite game. He didn't even make it to the dramatic controversial event at hour two tonight in tlou2. He is now watching net flick because the game isn't what he thought. It's not the lgbt elements, but the fact that he thought he would continue as the story arc of the character from the first game from the trailers.
There's videoes on youtube that shows how Naught Dog "deceived" people about the game. ( I must say I don't agree 100% with the characterization. I mean I think Naughty Dog was more trying to subvert expectations, Game of Thrones styles but it just isn't as effective in their marketing.)
I think it's a weird storm of ND's marketing trying to set up subverted expectations clashing with the fan's desires causing the issues. Ned Stark was an iconic moment because it was so rare at the time. Now it is cliche. Copiers of theGOT formula don't respect how much the GOT author spent building up Ned and his character. Pretenders to the GOT throne think if they add it will be epic. It is not!
If you read the reviews and see the word Cuckman, just keep scrolling. If you see things talking about the story and the last Jedi, I think they are good barometers for if you will like the game or not. The last Jedi/ GOT Finale is all about taste. If you liked those stories, enjoy the game. If you didn't like the writing of those, be aware.
