I'd much rather have the extra speed than being able to store a couple of extra games when I'm still going to need external storage regardless. Xbox Series X's ssd will be better than a standard SSD thrown in a PC with no extra attention given to it and PS5's SSD will be better than the one in the xbox. When you are talking a few games difference let's say 15 games on one console vs 18/19 on the other that's really not a significant difference, nobody really plays that many games in the same time frame anyway. I have over 46 on my SSD and I probably play no more than 5 of them within a months time, many of them haven't been played in over a year.

I know some people wrongly think the PS5 SSD size (as opposed to 1TB) was chosen to be cheaper but they've explained that it came out that way due to the customizations they've done and basically if they wanted to increase the size of the included drive they'd have to double the size of the SSD to be 1.6TB which would end up being too expensive. Yeah we can put our own NVME SSD in after Sony confirms each one but those are still going to be so expensive I think people will more than likely just use cheaper external drives for storage only and moves games around.

You know the Xbox SSD is custom designed not just one you slap in a PC jeez.

I said that in a post in this thread yesterday, I guess I have to write it every time so people don't get defensive. The level of customization done to the Series X SSD isn't anywhere near as deep as what's been done with the PS5 either that's why Sony had to go with the specific size they did.

Meh, better buying your own SSD of choice and size imo. I honestly can't see why the critique tbh, it's been like this since 2013 and then it even started at 500gb.
I have scorpio 1tb + 2tb external and I can fill them pretty fast if I'm not picky, so even if they give me 2tb it wouldn't be enough.

I have a 4TB external with our X1X and it's nearly full. But I can't blame Sony or MS for not providing an SSD of that size because I have two PCI 4.0 1TB SSDs in my PC and they were not cheap. The price/GB point for high performance SSDs just doesn't make even 2TB feasible yet.

It's a different level of customization - they're focused on the whole I/O stack, while Sony's solution is basically throwing more bandwidth at the load. It's different approaches with different benefits and we're far from knowing what will work better in anything other than max throughput sequential read scenarios, but the whole "we'll see it when we see it" thing is pretty much the definition of this generation at this point. I'd love to see what we could get if we could pair Sony's SSD throughput with MS' increased performance from the API.

Would customization also include the SSDs reliance on Velocity? How deep is Velocity?

Tormented Souls developer Dual Effect Games has said that the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller can be a game-changer for horror games because its features will allow players to feel creepy little details.

Speaking to SegmentNext, the developer used the example of spiders to illustrate this point.


"I think that the DualSense would be very transcendent for horror games on the PS5 since it will help to increase player insertion in the experience. I can imagine a transparent plastic artifact full of spiders that you have manipulated with your hands using the joystick movement sensors, while you can feel all those little spider legs going wild through your palm"

 
PSB: PlayStation is no stranger to publishing titles on the PC, but Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the largest games to make that leap. Is there anything you would say to PlayStation fans? What does it mean for the future?

Sure. I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on.

And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.

 
If you want to believe that controller really is a game changer then so be it. I remember when the PS2 was so powerful that it was suggested that Saddam Hussein could weaponized them against his own people. Sony and their fanclubs in the gaming press has a embarrassing history of hyping up their products.

It's not what I believe; it's what developers and everyone else that has had hands on experience with it believes. Are you insinuating that everyone is lying? .....or maybe they were paid off. :hehe:

This is really great I can't wait to see 4k touissant with ray tracing! Also the loading times were a bit long as well so be nice to have those slashed too.
