I will be heading to Virginia in a month or so, just hit a 100k job and this is a life changing for me. So if any members in that area let me know.
Norfolk area, near Portsmouth. Ghent possibleI’m in NC but I’ve been through VA plenty of times. Where to in VA?
VA Beach specifically is a good mixing pot I guess due to the large military population. It's an alright place to live if you can get by the beach, rest of it is pretty suburby / standard. You should have @tumorman show you around.
Isn’t Virgina beach a good spot that’s like also a mixing pot like California or New York?
I'm coming from Philadelphia, traffic is a normal thing here at i95@Nervusbreakdown yeah I'm up in Richmond, but from Hampton Roads originally. Absolutely live in Ghent if you can, you'll have a much better experience than Portsmouth or Chesapeake.
Where's your job? Are you used to traffic? Where are you moving from? I can give you a million tips on things to do down there for sure.
Where in the Norfolk area is your job? How long of a commute are you willing to do? Would you have to take the bridge tunnel every day? Do you have a family? Is walkability important to you?I'm coming from Philadelphia, traffic is a normal thing here at i95

Just trying to gauge on recommendations for places to live.
You didn't answer the other parts of my question, but if you're buying look into the Larchmont neighborhood. It's nice and also conveniently located. If not, The Hague and Ghent are your best options to rent. Don't live in Portsmouth, absolute garbage town. Chesapeake is nice too if you've got a family and want more of a traditional area.My job at Portsmouth
Funny that you say that, I was looking at a place in Portsmouth by the waterfront which is an excellent place. I have stayed there a few times and it was good. That could be because of the Navy base and Police station. I can clearly see Ghent from the other side at Water St.You didn't answer the other parts of my question, but if you're buying look into the Larchmont neighborhood. Why’s that?Yeah that area is pretty nice, it's just the rest of Portsmouth that is awful
Generally a low income area, lots of crime, and just not a great place. There's pockets that are nice yeah, but overall it's kind of a blight on Hampton Roads. Why’s that?
Again, this is just a temp until the rest of my family comes down. I have seen the bad area, I'm from Philadelphia, I can tell you the bad part in Portsmouth is a joke compare here.Generally a low income area, lots of crime, and just not a great place.
