Im moving to Virginia very soon

@Nervusbreakdown yeah I'm up in Richmond, but from Hampton Roads originally. Absolutely live in Ghent if you can, you'll have a much better experience than Portsmouth or Chesapeake.

Where's your job? Are you used to traffic? Where are you moving from? I can give you a million tips on things to do down there for sure.

Where in the Norfolk area is your job? How long of a commute are you willing to do? Would you have to take the bridge tunnel every day? Do you have a family? Is walkability important to you?

Just trying to gauge on recommendations for places to live.

You didn't answer the other parts of my question, but if you're buying look into the Larchmont neighborhood. It's nice and also conveniently located. If not, The Hague and Ghent are your best options to rent. Don't live in Portsmouth, absolute garbage town. Chesapeake is nice too if you've got a family and want more of a traditional area.

Feel free to hit me up if you've got any questions

Funny that you say that, I was looking at a place in Portsmouth by the waterfront which is an excellent place. I have stayed there a few times and it was good. That could be because of the Navy base and Police station. I can clearly see Ghent from the other side at Water St.

I did drive down to the deeper side of Portsmouth and yeah, there is no way I can live there.

My move will only be a stepping stone because of my job after that planing to get a house near the Beach.

Generally a low income area, lots of crime, and just not a great place. There's pockets that are nice yeah, but overall it's kind of a blight on Hampton Roads.
Again, this is just a temp until the rest of my family comes down. I have seen the bad area, I'm from Philadelphia, I can tell you the bad part in Portsmouth is a joke compare here.
