Why do people prefer the PS4?

Sometimes i just don't get the hype for the PS4. Exactly what does it have that the Xbox One doesn't have? I am a regular visitor on this forum called Xboxworld but the way things are going, they may just as well change it to PSworld. Lots of visitors and moderators are cancelling their X1 preorder and going 100% for PS4. Is it the Kinect? Is it the price difference? There still ain't no release date for our country, so we have to import it...maybe that's the reason. A bad reason if you ask me though...i just don't get it.

well if you dont care much about xbox exclusives, controller, XBOX Live then there isnt a reason to get it over the PS4, since PS4 is cheaper and it has better looking third party games (even if the difference isnt huge)

Xbox being the weaker console really needed to be cheaper for neutral/casual gamers to want it

At the moment, I am still hoping there is something (between now & when I buy my next gen console) that MS can show, that make me change my mind, as I am leaning more towards PS4.
 
It all comes down to the games and console experience. Having played both systems, I can say that PS4 is very nice, but feels like another game console while x1 feels like a super gaming console with many features and future potenial. It has already changed the way I interact with my entertainment system. That being said, it currently has better games and is only going to get better with time. I still will buy a PS4 in the future though.

Having bought both systems day one. I go through phases where one is better than the other. The PS4 pad is excellent and I must admit I prefer it slightly to the Xbox One pad and that's amazing as well.

The Xbox one features I first thought were a nice but slight unneccesary distraction. But I find in BF4 if I do something amazing in Conquest I say 'Xbox Record That ' then am gutted when its the PS4 I'm playing . So in that respect the Xbox is doing everything MS wanted the gamers to say or do even without thinking . The voice and upload stuff is now second nature and a big part of the experience for me. And I was on the fence with them initially.

This past week while I've been off work I have played a lot of Xbox One and like last gen I'm going towards Xbox over Playstation at the moment.

Sometimes I feel like the PS4's dashboard is to simple but sometimes its a clean simple UI and a good alternative to the Busy Dashboard of the Xbox One.

Battlefield looks better on the PS4 and I prefer playing on the Playstation but the other games are fine lines and controller preference .

One thing for me which has been a revelation is the Xbox Fitness App. I'm a gym rat but the Mossa MMA Fight is brilliant if not torturous but I think its a great free addition . A lot,of free workouts for nothing . I hope it stays free and they add extra content as we go.

This is my experience so far. May not help but I've been as honest as possible .

The PS4 has the lower price and more powerful hardware. And a bunch of other features that may or may not pertain to everyone. But basically its price and better hardware is what's got it so hyped.
 
1st and foremost going by the PS brand history.... better/higher rated 1st party franchises.(assuming the PS4 continues this trend)
Better controller that actually offers something new.
More powerful,lower priced,lower priced online service that offers more to gamers ie more free games and has a better UI.
Better 3rd party versions of games.
 
Re-titled the thread to more accurately reflect the OP's stated intention.

It's a pretty simple answer. Most people paying attention ought to know it, which makes me suspect the OP's question was really just rhetorical and meant for fellow X1 fans (it appeared in the X1 thread).

But I'll answer the question anyway.

  • More powerful hardware.
  • Because of that, there is a decent chance that most games will look/perform better on it.
  • $100 cheaper. There's no sense that you are paying $100 extra for something you don't want.
  • Access to Sony exclusives, which a lot of people love.
And some other factors, probably more arguable:
  • Sony's openness to indie developers
  • Sony's apparent greater emphasis on the gaming experience
  • Leftover suspicion from MS's reveal and PR fumbles
  • Revenge of the pent-up Sony nerds, who were frustrated by the 360's success last generation

For the record, I don't prefer my PS4. I only tolerate it over my alternatives. ;)

Don't own any new gen consoles but I've been saying that X1 looks like the best. Sony just doesn't have any interesting exclusives and to be frank, they likely won't net me anytime in the future since I never was interested in the PS3 the entire gen. It's a personal preference and not a slam in anyway. Dead Rising 3 is the game I really want to play the most. It just looks like a work of art. Kajillions of zombies, being able to fuse vehicles and weapons, f***, being able to use vehicles the way you do in this game in general. It's just leaps and bounds the best DR to date from just vids alone and I'm 110% jealous of everybody who simply gets to try it. Then you throw in stuff like Ryse, Crimson Dragon, and Loco Cycle which appeal huge to a guy like me and I just want to break into ZACK's house and take his X1. Hell, I'm pretty late in the game, but Forza 4 made me a new fan of simulation racers, even if it was just on a uber casual level. I'd love to play Forza 5, even if it doesn't seem all that big of a jump compared to a sequel like DR3. Plus, I was a huge fan of kinect on the 360. Had a ton of fun playing stuff like Kinect Sports and Haunt. Very cool and unique experiences for me. It just sounds like Kinect is on a new level for the X1 and it makes me happy. The new Kinect Sports game is definitely I look forward to seeing come out.
 
Don't see why you'd come to this site if you prefer the PS4. The setup with the different platforms being cordoned off isn't that great and there's barely any activity in the Sony section. The multiplatform section just being a bunch of console wars makes it pretty uninviting. Even for the Xbox, the Xbox One reddit is a lot better with a lot more activity, more topics and barely any console wars.

Not really on topic, but I don't see much of a future for this site with it's current setup/branding.

The better question is why would anyone prefer the Xbox One? Besides the obvious reasons given above to not prefer it, such as you are paying more for inferior hardware and getting the worse versions of multiplatform games, it also has less games to play period, and less highly rated games. Check Metacritic.

Right, I originally titled it "What console do you prefer, round 10" then figured I'd better change it to something more congruent with the OP. That explains Viktor and Amiga saying "Wii U".

well coming from Australia at launch xboxone was $599 with fifa 14 and Ps4 was $549. No price differences really.
why i got xbox one 1st mainly familiarity with xbox live and games.

I don't care about specs just games. The PS4 atm doest have games im after. Probably only drive club. Infamous looks way over hyped.
Hopefully by Xmas more games will be out like The Order and then ill grab a PS4.

so to answer the question probably hype, price bad PR from MS. Also Sony fans are more inclined to buy quick. PS3 at launch did smash 360 sales in the UK too but 360 came out on top overall.

Sorry you feel that way. Not sure about the dislike of different console forums then suggesting that Reddit is a lot better when that site is the most cordoned off on the planet.

I hope you're wrong about, "not seeing much of a future for this site," as I enjoy running it. Time will tell.
