The game looks great to me for what it is. An open world Bethesda game and not a linear story driven Sony game, which it seems like most want to compare it to.

Horizon (2 of them) Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, Infamous (3 of them) and Spider-Man say hi lol, hell even their linear games are much more open than they used to be. Sony doesn't really focus on linear games and hasn't for a long time they have a good mix. BTW People aren't comparing this to Sony games they are comparing it to open world games in general. The only reason some are getting defensive about it is because Xbox bought bethesda, if bethesda was still 3rd party people who are pointing out the issues with it now would still be doing it but you'd also have xbox fans feeling free to say things as well.

If Bethesda was still 3rd party there wouldn't be as much negativity. Imo.
I know, victim complex, yada yada.
I think people would say,
" looks like it needs another year in the oven, but looks pretty sweet." Or something. The criticism would just be different.

Good points on the Sony open world games. But even Horizon had issues at launch.

It is a typical Bethesda RPG. Not great visually, but will likely be fun despite all the inevitable bugs.

I've always had fun with Bethesda games. Fallout games and Elder Scrolls have kept me entertained for months and sometimes years(Elder Scrolls online).

Yeah Horizon needed more time, it lacked the technical polish most Sony first party games have at launch, it's great now technically (Aloy isn't a great character and the story was a big drop from the first one) but it should have launched in the state it's currently in, publishers need to stop pushing games out and saying "we'll fix it later" that's a BS mentality and it's one that's far too prevalent in the industry.

I don't think Starfield is getting any extra criticism, people were already going to look at it with a bit of skepticism as a major Bethesda game after the way Fallout 76 turned out compared to the way it was built up by Todd Howard. There may be some hardcore Sony fanboys going overboard but that's also in response to the Xbox only fans who kept talking up starfield like it was going to be the greatest game ever yet they hadn't seen a single second of gameplay.

Elephant in the room is Bethesda / Microsoft needs to outsource these franchises to other studios or create new ones whose sole responsibility is stewardship of these beloved IPs. Going 15. Plus years between mainline Elder Scrolls and Fallout games is INEXCUSABLE.

I’m not even a huge Fallout guy, but 4 was seven years ago and we are just now being told 5 is in the pipeline. After the current game that has taken eight years to develop and isn’t due out for a year. And after the other game, that is in pre production and may not even be out this gen.

So Fallout 5 is easily 2030 or later. Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018 and will probably bookmark the final year of this gen in, what, 2028?

That is not responsibly nurturing your IPs. At all. Rockstar is guilty of this too.

I watched this in 4k on my Xbox and I got to say that this game looks way better over the event. I see the framerate all over the place and why it needed to be delayed. This might be the game that I can see playing for a while.

Some areas run really well and some are iffy.

I wasn't looking forward to that TMNT game releasing today. I downloaded it and played the first 2 stages. I confirmed that it wasn't worth buying, much less being excited for. It was basically free, so why not? You must miss out on A LOT of games if you don't at least give something a chance after having negative first impressions.
Not really. I just know what I want and dont want. It is what it is.

Sometimes its the pedigree and history of the developer that fans trust when it comes to the product itself. Bethesda has been making huge WRPG's for decades and they've left an impression on tens of millions of gamers. I think a lot of the criticism is coming from Sony gamers who're just bitter its a brand new Bethesda Ip thats exclusive to another platform. Starfiled demp wasnt perfect. Performance was shotty and maybe the color pallette was unique with a Interstellar vibe (which I like) But Bethesda makes huge, huge bangers that last decades. My two cents, anyway...

Sony puts out quality games, but they are 90% third person action/adventure with varying degrees of openness.

It was also native 4K. Even something as simple as dynamic resolution would fix the framerate to where it is 30 FPS / 4K most of the time, occasionally dropping to 1440p (making this up) to keep 30 FPS.

Can the Creation Engine even do dynamic res....I mean the engine is very old. I can't believe they are still using it.

If we were only talking ES games I'd agree but I found FO4 to not only be an ugly game but boring and Fallout 76 which they also made was nowhere near what was promised. Even when this was multiplatform I wasn't excited for it I wanted ES6 first lol. I don't think this looks all that fun from the footage that was shown, it looks like the shooting has improved from FO4 but it still looks a bit slow and clunky. The thousand planet thing sounds good on paper but I bet like most things we are fed ahead of time from most companies they build it up to sound great in theory but in practice it'll get old quick and we won't even care anymore after a few days.

I was only responding to Dno who said that sony focused on linear games, that hasn't been true for a while. Third person yes (which is my personal preference) but they have plenty of full open world and TLOU2 and UC4 both had huge open areas to play in even though they were still linear games, even the latest Ratchet and Clank had huge open areas.

Ratchet and clanks huge open areas are pretty much the size of a Skyrim dungeon. There's not really a PS exclusive to compare it to they all do their own things which is quality action adventure games as opposed to the deep RPG starfield will be.

You can bet nearly all of those extra planets are going to be pretty empty and what is on them will be very repetitive, that sounds like one of those things that's better on paper than will be in practice.

I'm sure if Sony made an RPG it would be just as deep, and honestly I wish they would. I'd rather they leave Horizon after this last one and have GG move on to a third person fantasy action RPG.
