Why would I not at least give the game a chance when it releases? I usually play every big game that comes to GP (Halo & Gears) even though I've never really liked any of the previous games. I'm not a fan of futuristic or sci-fi stuff, so what was shown did absolutely nothing for me to change that.
Dunno. If Im not feeling a game or it doesn't vibe with me, I usually don't touch it or post how I much it doesn't gel with me. There's plenty of games out there I'd rather play. It was just an observation. Your post was filled with heavy contradictions.

But that is the issue, isn't it, empty spaces. What is the point of a whole planet being explorable if most of it is filled with nothing, and then have a thousand of them. It is essentially quantity over quality.

Exploration is a key component to an RPG.
He mentioned in a follow-up interview that there are hand crafted planets that the plot revolves around, then there are the procedurally based planets that are just for messing around in. The attempt is to give you both the handcrafted, focused feel, but also to allow exploration into a seemingly endless number of other planets if you wish.

Todd Howard can make anything sound good, he almost had me buying fallout 76 and I hated fallout 4 and don't care for most multiplayer games lol but the execution of the things he describes rarely hits the mark. This is very ambitious so it sounds impressive, visually it doesn't look very good.
What? He hits the mark on pretty much all of his games. Fallout 76 was an outlier. If you don't like his games that is fine, but they do what they are designed.

But the same comment applies, an endless number of planets largely filled with nothing is a boring and tedious act that ultimately serves little purpose and does more harm than good.

Isn't that real space? There's a alot of nothing and occassional (in this game) you'll get a planet that has some POI.

I guess if we were looking for realism, then it would take 6 months and more in real life to reach some planets. Imagine flying to one of the 1000 planets taking over 6 months for you to get there in the game. Land on Mars, and it's empty.

I was going to join in this silly discussion, but I took aero to the knee.

I appreciate all opinions, but not going down the hole of discussing what we've heard thus far. I think there's still much more details that await us.

Hard disagree. It's the best looking Bethesda game ever made. I was actually shocked at how good it looked. Their games typically aren't lookers.
It's still not a looker, as far as it being their best looking game of course it is because it's the newest one lol and Fallout 4 and 76 looked terrible for their time, we already have open world games on both consoles that look better than this. It has terrible effects, the framerate was awful etc. It did look best in 3rd person mode just because the character model adds something to it and while the animation isn't great it's definitely better than what they've done in the past. There isn't anything visually going on that makes me think this is a 2nd or 3rd year new gen game. They need to get some new tech but they refuse, this game is targeting 30fps and it's not even coming close to hitting it right now.

Those complaining this game is not a looker is funny. When was Oblivion/Skyrim Fallout3/4 about pushing graphics? It was about creating huge worlds we got to role play in. Really excited for this game.
Oblivion was a great looking game when it launched, it had a ton of pop in and other technical issues but at the time it looked great, skyrim's world looked good when it launched but the character models let it down. The Fallout series has never looked good though IMO.

Fallout 3 was rough, I thought Fallout 4 looked fine. Enjoyed exploring that world.

I didn't like how anything looked in fallout 4 other than the happy face on the German Shepherd :)
I put a bunch of hours into Fallout 4, despite not really caring for it. Not sure if I was not in the mood or what. I know I'm not crazy about base building. I did a little, but my heart isn't in that. I think I'm ready for a new Bethesda RPG. Was debating to dive back into my old save, but think that would ruin Starfield for me. We'll also see how interesting outpost building is. I hated getting called back to a base. I'll help set it up, but I'm out of here.

Yeah I played FO4 for a bit too even though I didn't care for it or it's look, I spent the money on it so I wanted to at least try to like it lol. It was annoying to set up bases with a ton of defenses and then still have to return so often. There is a way to make that fun I think they just went a little too far with it, if you set up too many places you end up going back and forth defending and repairing more than you do going through the story. It would be cool to let you set up a base then designate someone to be in charge and run it who only calls you if something is getting out of hand rather than having to go back every time. Hell it's been so long since I've played that game maybe that was even in it and I just forgot lol.

Starfield could end up being a great game. I love Oblivion and Skyrim so it's not like I hate Bethesda's work this just seems more like fallout in some ways, the videos they showed made the gunplay look mediocre, he emptied a clip in to that first enemy's back and the guy never flinched lol. The graphics aren't very good and the performance was terrible but maybe the complete package will turn out to be great.

I'm going to try it regardless but I just wish for something that we all waited so long to see that it had been more impressive and polished at this point. That terrible smoke when the ship was landing that looks 2d and was running at like 10fps set off a red flag at the start for me and I just kept seeing things that looked very underwhelming graphically through the whole thing.

Yea I spent countless hours building a huge base on sanctuary island, it's actually pretty cool I should post a video, fully self sufficient and tons of settlers and defense and will always get told my base is under attack.

I can't wait to see how the base building is for starfield, also want to see what kinds of effects powerful guns can have.

You guys do know the base building in F4 was optional. After awhile I quit caring and just focused on the main story till I finished the game.
Yeah, my stuff was simple. I did the minimum and moved on. I set up some turrets in some places and would occasionally come by and fix them.

I think the game’s graphics look pretty good, especially if you watch it in 4K. I just don’t think what they showed looked particularly inspired or interesting at this point, certainly not enough for me to pour hours into it enough to explore hundreds of planets let alone a thousand.

You know, I grew tired of Fallout 4 though as well, and never finished it. I just think sometimes some of these devs are victims of their own arrogance or hubris and at times expect an unreasonable level of player commitment.
