IMO…Seeing how much sony spends on a single game (to appease the mouse) and bringing the first to push prices up, it’s now only a matter of time, maybe even raise prices the year before the next gen.

Yeah it's not like everything is being inflated out of this world right now like hydro, gas, bills, food etc ...

I think one big factor is the live service bubble bursting. It is obvious companies chased after the live service dragon and wasted tons of money (and in some cases still are). I wonder about Spider Man 2. Why did a copy/paste of the last game cost so much? Did they have bigger ambitions early on? Mismanagement? Costs have gone up, but that number doesn't make sense.

2023 shows that single player games are still the way to go. They need to make games that people install, play and finish, not sit around and wait for content updates. Live service games come with tons of risk. Single player games still have some, but put out a good game and people will buy it.

I will barely buy brand new games anymore at $70. I’d rather stick to my backlog, sales, and subscriptions and just wait on those brand new games to drop in price or hit a service. If they start charging $100 for a game I’ll never buy a new game again.

The rising tide raises all ships. If AAA games go to $100 you can bet AA games will jump up too.

This is also flawed logically as decreased sales would in part offset a price increase. You might have higher revenue, but fewer users to buy things like DLC.

f the big three go this route GamePass will look even more attractive.

Games basically have gone through a stealth increase already. It is painfully obvious that game sales are way less off then they used to be. Back in the day, holiday sales would have me buying more games than I could play. The past couple of years though, you barely get any discounts except on very old games.

You used to be able to find games for $20-30, but now you're lucky to see $35-50. The black friday/end of year sales are barely worth browsing anymore.

Its pretty much inevitable. Game prices are going to have to go up given development costs. The only question is by how much and how soon.

I was talking about this with some friends. Gaming is/has become a cost prohibitive hobby. I equate gaming to a golfing hobby or photography hobby nowadays. Large start up fees ( I.E. Console, built or pre-built PC) with moderate to high recurrent costs ( Console subscriptions, price of new games, DLC etc.).

It is what it is.

So many people have stopped buying new games since the increase to $70.

Dev costs are bogus. Inflated cost due to poor work flow and efficiency.

Yep, on recent sales some games I’m interested in are still $40+. I’m not paying more than $20-$30 for games that are months+ old. I’ll just keep waiting till the price goes down more.
