2024 will bring more layoffs and closures than 2023

xbox fans or those who know that when a company merged with another there will be jobs that overlap and those are most likely to be removed, they don’t need two teds in HR. That and there’s gonna be those that don’t want to work under MS or fee it’s time to move on….many of the higher ups at abk have been let go or left, that Lulu who was very vocal in the merger left, she seemed super excited for the merger and fought for it as she seemed to care for the devs and the change it might bring, like unionizing the QA. Do wonder why she left tho, most likely money tho.

Consolidation of positions like you hinted at probably. Cut costs and positions and move teams under one leadership maybe ?

The sad thing is that most of this is due to bad decisions, not the state of the industry. Seems like gaming in general is growing, and these companies are just screwing up chasing live service trends.

Not just gaming. It's the simple choice that doesn't hurt those up top.

I am willing to bet that Activision was over populated with employees.

Sucks. I just left a company that was going through a ton of layoffs due to acquisitions, though I left of my own accord.

Its going to get worse. 2024 may unfortunately end up being a banner year for studio closures and staff reductions.

Sadly I concur, and they probably put their bets on major continued growth similar to what they saw during the pandemic, they’re still making money but not for said employees. Hopefully they get a nice severance pay and help to land in their feet on the quickness

So did he leave in his own like Booty said or was he supposed to be in for the long haul 🫠
I’m guessing he couldn’t say anything before the merger went through. Just like many that left once it was said and done, like many who were pushing for the merge left (ie Lulu Cheng) a lot of people thought she was gonna stay, but instead was one of the first to leave

Weird to say in for long haul unless his idea of long is a few months lol

I imagine that MS took over, got a close look at Odyssey, and told them it wasn't going to work in terms of what Blizzard was saying it was going to cost to maintain as a GAAS game. This was Blizzard's main new project I hear, so this comes to a head over the past couple of months, and Mike and others disagree to the point that they make the call to jump ship.

I don’t think he’d be like “I’m out once this is done” it would’ve dropped moral and such. Maybe some wanted him out, he did burn some bridges and devs left cos of decisions he was part of/made

Just not saying anything is an option 🧐
