Basically, we've seen 2D/3D versions of many franchises, but for some, it doesn't always happen. What would you like to see? Could be a huge big budget project that a publisher could get behind? Maybe an smaller but new and intriguing twist to an old formula.

Mario: They've managed to keep things fresh enough throughout the years that people continue to come back again and again long after their childhood which isn't always the case beyond a nostalgia trip.
2D - It's so damn hard to imagine what can be done in the 2D world that hasn't been done already. Has there been a Mario chess video game? It would obviously also work as a 3D game, but for some reason, I like video game chess better in 2D. Also, f*** it, why not a Mario card game of some kind? Mario Poker perhaps? Mario Uno?
3D - I'm not sure if we've seen it yet, but I'd like to see a 3D Mario RPG of some kind. I think it'd be a cool and somewhat new thing to the series, perhaps give an opportunity to explore more of the world Mario inhabits in a way we've never really done before.

Castle Crashers: Not sure if we'll ever get a sequel, but this was hugely popular and among the better and more memorable games last gen.
2D - I'd like to see it go top down like Zelda or a isometric Diablo game pretty much. I think it'd be cool to see something like the Diablo get a whole new visual Behemoth twist, and I just think Castle Crashers would make for a good top down Zelda game.
3D - Zelda: WInd Waker style for the most part. Characters match the concept I think and it'd be cool to really expand on it all. Castle Crashers 3D is the obvious name to go with in this one.

Halo: I'd like to think that there's plenty of room there to make new and unique experiences for the Halo universe. Lots of lore to work with, loads of characters, and it's still pretty much MS' most popular exclusive franchise.
2D - A sequel to Shadow Complex doesn't seem likely. Why not the next best thing? MS could partner up with Epic again to make a Halo game in the style of Shadow Complex. Which really is just a Metroid style game. So Metroid style Halo I guess. The fit seems right, new way to play a beloved franchise, and as we've seen with games like Halo Wars or Spartan Assault, MS isn't afraid to mix it up every now and then.
3D - In Halo Reach, we saw a space combat section that was damn near universally beloved. It was fun, unique, and just plain fun. Would love to see a Halo space combat type of game. The world of Halo practically begs for it, air combat has been in the game since the very start, but we've never gotten a game dedicated to space/air combat. Plenty of variety to work with from the get go. Would love to see it happen.

DC/Marvel - We've seen these companies embrace a ton of genres. FPS, RPG, Action Adventure, open world, fighting, and even racing games at times. There is still some room for cool concepts to come to fruition.
2.5D - Have we seen an attempt at an all Super Smash Bros style game yet? Seems like it could be a great idea on paper. Huge list of characters, don't even need to a DC or Marvel type of thing. You could use something like Batman or X-Men alone. We've seen Sony try their hand at it and Cartoon Network had a decent copycat version made. I'd love to see it happen.
3D - I like to think that a Twisted Metal styled car combat game could happen. We've obviously seen some characters have their vehicles be a huge part of who they are. Nobody can imagine the Ghost Rider without his bike far behind, not Batman without his Batmobile. This comes across as a type of game that would only happen back in the PS1/2 era of gaming when properties were handled pretty loosely. I mean, we actually got a Batman racing game once upon a time. We've already taken that first step people. It's time to go all the way.

When I read the thread title my first thought was actually a 2D Halo game reminiscent of Shadow Complex. That could be an awesome game.
