A new challenger has arrived, Amazon's Fire TV!

yes but you
or PS4.

He do have a point, everything is behind a paywall. It is however MS to prove you get value for your bucks.
BUT you need prime to get free movies, otherwise you must pay for them
and prime is going UP to 100 bucks
xbox live and ps plus are far better deals

Different services. No one gets prime for the videos, that's just a perk.

But it's not a better deal. I save hundreds a year on shipping costs.
I've paid zero on shipping at Amazon. The Amazon Prime for shipping is a sucker's deal because just using the standard free shipping with $29 or $39 order arrives in about 3-4 days anyway, and that's factoring in an extra day if it comes from a US distribution centre to Canada.

I bet most US customers using standard free shipping get it faster than me.

People trying to defend having to pay to use netflix on XBL when its free on their competitors systems is just hilarious.

Yeah. Sort of like PS+ games being "free", when really gamers have to pay $50 a year and they are actually rentals since the second you don't renew PS+ you can't play them.

Minimum $35 without prime.

I do a lot of shopping on Amazon so Prime is a great deal as I often place small orders and I enjoy the faster shipping.

Which affects almost nobody. Not like on Xbox you can sell your games or anyone owns anything digital anyway.

What does that have to do at all with netflix? Nothing.

Sure it does.

The post had a supposed Xbox One customer review talking about Netflix in specific, but the overarching issue is MS has various stuff behind a Gold membership paywall.

As I said before too bad. That's their business plan. MS offers the best online on consoles, so they decided to bundle in the apps like Netflix with it too for access.

Considering how many people buy Xbox Gold, it doesn't seem like an issue as the focus of Xbox is games anyway.

It's not much different than all these tv media boxes that all seem to cost about $100. If someone really wanted to, they could connect a $5 HDMI cord from their PC/laptop to the TV and stream whatever they want from their PC. Yet some do, but some prefer using these media boxes to handle it. To me, seems like a waste of $100.

Also, there are various popular books in public domain due to expired copyrights. Yet Amazon and various makers charge money to buy them when in fact the content is 100% free to read if you know which websites to check. Yet, they will keep that hush hush.

Just because something is free in one area doesn't mean business savvy companies can't make a buck off people who don't care, are happy with the product or are too lazy to look for alternatives.

I don't even use netflix yet. But when I eventually get it, three of the four devices under my TV have it built in, including my TV itself. Don't need to spend $400 for the privilege of playing an app that's been given out like candy the last half decade.

I've got no interest in this gaming platform, now that I've seen some videos covering it. There's no interest here, either, from what I can tell -- everyone's talking about Netflix or postal rates.

While I think people may utilize the gaming features of the so called "console", at the end of the day, it's not really a dedicated gaming machine. And even if it does succeed, I don't see gamers ever abandoning PlayStation or Xbox's next-gen blockbuster experiences like WatchDogs or Destiny for small F2P android games like Brick Breaker 3000.

And this is what Double Helix is going to make games for?

And people called Microsoft crazy for catering to everyone. Amazon, Apple, Google, still a few more players yet to emerge.

I'll pass on this POS.

You may, but a ridiculous amount of people are going to eat this up.

Yep, pass. give me the US vita. Or a unlocked japan model.

Should have had a 200 dollar version that plays actual games.

Why? All they needed to do was offer their prime service and accessibility to other video services, while offering popcap style games with the occasional full featured style. They're trying to enter the living room like everyone else. What better way than to appease to the masses?

prime is for ppl who shop a lot on amazon which a lot of ppl do. You also get cheap 1 day shipping which can be as low as $4 on most items with a Prime membership. You don't get jack s*** with a xbox live membership but the ability to play online games and use apps that are free on other devices and consoles.

I will take the AppleTV over this POS any day of the week.

I disagree. I have Amazon Prime not only so I can get free shipping, but more so so that I can get my package in 2 days or less. That value is unparalleled IMO.

I wonder how double helix feels? They just have two successes and are rewarded with this? I wouldn't be happy.

I agree. I bought the device, but don't plan on gaming on it. Maybe that could change in the future, but it wasn't a selling point for me personally.

This is amazon just testing the water both them and google are waiting to pounce into the console market. MS maybe knows this and wants a healthier sony to keep these 2 @ bay for awhile?

If Amazon and Google (specifically Google) were to enter the console market I have bad news for Nintendo and possibly Sony. Microsoft I think has the funds to hang, but the big N and Sony might not be so lucky. Will be interesting to see. That is of course assuming they jump in to the console market "for real". By that I mean an actual gaming console and not some device that runs Android like the Ouya.
