Control was a dumpster fire. Worst Remedy game.
I agree, it had a lot of map issues and difficulty spikes. However I did have a blast with Control after I turned on God mode. I really like that you still gained and lost health because it felt less like cheating and you still know where you would have died

Remedys weakest game and the map played a big part of that. They are better suited to smaller areas.

Alan Wake Remastered was leaked recently through a retailer listing and it has been rumored to be announced next week.

Alan Wake fans should be excited to know that a remaster of the game is in development. It was leaked through a Taiwanese retailer with a date of October 5. We have some new information to share on this, courtesy of our own source.

  • Alan Wake Remastered will use the Northlight Engine by Remedy Entertainment, previously used in Control.
  • The game supports ray-tracing for reflections on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, but not on last-generation consoles.
  • There is no Nintendo Switch version. While we haven’t heard from our source about it, maybe a Cloud version can happen like Control.
  • Last-generation consoles will benefit from higher resolution and QoL changes but no ray-tracing.
  • The remaster will support 60 FPS.
Control Ultimate Edition is available on the Nintendo Switch but it is only playable through Cloud streaming. Remedy had released a DLC for Control that bridged the gap between it and Alan Wake setting up the lead for a potential Remedy universe.

Alan Wake Remastered will be announced next week according to analyst Daniel Ahmed. Nintendo is also rumored to host a Nintendo Direct on September 8th.

This has pretty much become my most anticipated game of the year, and we haven't even seen or heard many concrete details yet.

The best thing is it sets them up to announce AW2 which is obviously coming

Right after I just got done playing it, all the dlc, and control. Oh well, was still great. Can't wait for 2.

I REALLY hope this does come out as soon as October 5th (or sooner). If there's a fancy physical version, I'll be tempted to pick it up to put it on a shelf as a display. This is one of my favorite games of all time.

Not thrilled with some of this info. Seems like the type of upgrade we should have received last gen. No HDR, no raytracing, and the game is actually rendering at 1440p and upscaling to 4K. Also appears to have a bunch of arbitrary changes when you check the side by side comparison pictures on their site. Many, particularly trees and foliage, look like a downgrade to me.

I went from being insanely hyped for this to being mildly disappointed.

Technical

What are the main technical features of Alan Wake Remastered?

  • Remastered 4K graphics at 60 FPS* gameplay
  • Redone cinematic cut-scenes with improved facial animation and lip sync
  • Richer environmental details (improved textures and additional geometry)
  • Enhanced character models with updated hair and shaders
  • Improved visual effects and lighting
    *PS5 & Series X 60 fps / 4K
*PS4/Xbox One offer a 60 fps Performance and 30 fps Quality mode (included in Day 1 patch)

Does Alan Wake Remastered support ray tracing / HDR?

No.

As this is a remaster built on the existing Alan Wake engine and technology, adding in ray tracing / HDR support was deemed too time-consuming. This would have taken resources away from other critical areas.

We are confident the game looks great even without ray tracing / HDR support.

Technical details / resolution / frame rate

Render Resolution is the internal resolution size. Output Resolution is the resolution of the image after temporal upscaling. There are some rendering and post-processing differences between the versions of the game depending on platform.

Platform / Render Resolution / Output Resolution / target frame-rate

  • PlayStation 4 – 1080p / 1080p / 30fps
  • PlayStation 4 Pro (Performance Mode) – 1080p / 1080p / 60fps
  • PlayStation 4 Pro (Quality Mode) – 1296p / 2160p (4K) / 30fps / 4 x MSAA
  • Xbox One – 900p / 900p / 30fps
  • Xbox One X (Performance Mode) – 1080p / 1080p / 60fps
  • Xbox One X (Quality Mode) – 1440p / 2160p (4K) / 30fps / 4 x MSAA
  • PlayStation 5 – 1440p / 2160p (4K) / 60fps / 4X MSAA
  • Xbox Series X – 1440p / 2160p (4K) / 60fps / 4 X MSAA
  • Xbox Series S – 1080p / 1080p / 60fps
  • PC – 4K / unlimited

Not thrilled with some of this info. Seems like more of an upgrade to the PC version than a remaster. No HDR support is crazy at this point.

Wait, I thought the Remastered version is running on a new engine featuring Ray-tracing 🤔

I saw that on neogaf a while back but don't remember where it originated from. It's a game that didn't sell all that well so I don't think people should have expected them to do a full on remake or anything. This looks like they've still done a decent job, I'll give it a shot and I'm glad my first time playing it and as has been the case with a few remasters/remakes over the past few years I'll be glad that my first time with it wasn't on the 360 or PS3 :)

It looks good enough. Remedy know it's not going to sell 5m+ so they aren't going to spend fortunes on it and they haven't been backed by a big publisher for it.

For what is a remaster and not a remake they seem to be doing a decent job here.

I might be alone in this, but I prefer the original look.

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy to see Alan Wake back. Hopefully, it paves a way for a new game.

I never played the original but the remaster clearly looks better IMO especially the textures and faces, there is one shot where the lighting is odd on the guys face and his eyeline is lit up well but everything else is dark but in the old version his entire face is too bright for the scene.

Yeah it looks like some odd artistic choices with the graphics/lighting at times. I’m hoping picture quality gives off a wow factor with the increased FPS and resolution
