I was thinking about getting my son this for Christmas. He is 16. I was going to get the base $699 model, and then order a 24" monitor for about $129.

He is currently playing all his games on a piece of s*** ASUS laptop. He plays games like Hero's of the Storm, with that kinda top down look. He doesn't do games like Call of Duty, Battlefield or any of those AAA games that you find on console. Just a bunch of games similar to the ones that Blizzard offers.

Has anyone here used Alienware? Toms Hardware gives it a great review.

Thanks Val. Trying to avoid ASUS based on our experience with his laptop.

I ended up getting the $699 Alienware X51 R3, and should be here next week!

You get this yet? Let us know your thoughts. I'm going to be in the market for a cheap gaming PC soon.

Yup, Dell shipped it and I have it at home. I have it hidden until Christmas and will wrap it soon for my son to open that day.

Nice piece of hardware & surprising affordable. MOBA is popular among youngster. I am too slow for these games. I be butchered.

I had to google it. Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. :really:

Keep us posted after xmas on the X51. I'm looking to drop $1000 or less on a PC and those are looking nice.

Oh I will, sure! His monitor I got him was an ASUS for Christmas (that he better like!) and it is 1080p with HDMI, and I think that was about $150. The Alienware was $699+ tax, so like $740. So $890.00. The computer was through Dell of course, so that purchase also included at $70 gift card from Dell, so I used that $70 to get him a 1TB external Samsung HDD for his Xbox One.

How come they don't advertise prices with tax included?

In Aus, its illegal to advertise a price without including all the tax/excess fees. Makes it easier hehe.

The US is horrible in that regard. They JUST started requiring Airlines to do that here. They should require car rental agencies now too.

Yeah you definitely get jacked on car rentals and airfare when all the taxes and fees are added in...

My favorite is the "convenience" fee.
I am now hating the big trend of "resort fees" of $25 a day for hotels...not just resorts. $25 to cover concierge, internet, chairs on the beach. WTF was my room rate for then? The toilet?

Yeah, like an extra fee for paying directly online instead of with a check. How can that possibly cost the company more when they have to do less?

Yep, my water utility does that. All for a quarterly bill that is like $35. So instead of using a credit card or online xfer, I stick a check in the mail with a stamp, which someone has to open and take to a bank. :smash:
