As stated in the posted article, they of course had to keep nitpicking until they found someone. On Neogaf some are even calling it an ugly game now and that they can see the framedrops and other nonsense as the reverse Placebo effect sets in for the pixelcounting masses.

For me the Article mostly seems clickbait to get the Nintendo fans going and raging on DF for ad revenue, but I'm willing to try to discuss this, and Union VGF is one of the most balanced and fair places I know to do this.

So does this mean the "END OF MARIO KART OOOH NOOOOEEES! Nintendo is doomed as always!" or is it more a "Meh, couldn't care much". Response.

wont even entertain clicking the link ;)

5 more days and I can play and let the internet discuss it's visual fidelity

Ugh. Who cares?. If you're counting pixels on a game like Mario Kart, then you seriously need to get a life. A game with a cartoony style like MK doesn't need to be over analyzed. This is similar to the douche bags who were comparing all the versions of Child of Light, as if there was a real need to try and contrast one version against another. Some people just need to complain about the stupidest crap. Too many gamers have tiny penis syndrome.

I concur, but sadly the negative placebo effect has already happened. Some gamers are digital hypochondriacs, once they hear something is "wrong" they instantly have it/see it/can't stand it/feel it/need a suppository for it (this latter is my fix for them. Foot up the arse! :D). Personally I can't wait to play it, really looking forward to it myself and a UVGF cup.

The article is actually not negative about the game at all. It points out some imperfections, but it is very complimentary of the game overall.

"By most standards, Mario Kart 8 is an incredibly polished game with beautiful visuals, a high frame-rate, magical playability and an excellent menu system. By Nintendo's stratospheric standards, however, we dare say that it falls just a bit short. [...] Don't let these minor polish issues keep you away from the game - this is Mario Kart at its best and brightest. Racing has been refined to near perfection and its visuals are among the best on the platform."

I guess some people care about minor visual imperfections. I don't. I have played games with AWFUL visual presentation (e.g., Deadly Premonition, Risen 1) and loved them.

Mario Kart is Mario Kart. If you're busy counting pixels/resolution/fps in that game instead of having fun, you're in the wrong place.

The Crap what bugs me is that on several locations on the webbyweb this has already been abused to claim the strangest of things regarding the perception of graphics. People really read something on a pixelcounter site as DF, and instantly they can notice how terrible this is. This is what I mend with moving goalposts, even if Nintendo gave them their personal exact wishes, they would still move the goalposts and find something like this.

Really every 64th frame the engine puts in a duplicate, how will you even notice it unless you press your nose against the screen and yell "AHAAA I KNEW IT!" every time you think you notice something, then by sheer power of chance you might be right every few frames.

The game ran at a complete solid 60fps in that DF video the entire way through!! AND with those amazing visuals! This is why I bought a Wii U!!!!:bow::bow:

Well, I wouldn't let other people's nit-picking perfectionism get on your nerves. There will always be people like that, people who focus on trivial shortcomings and blow them out of proportion. Just ignore them. Or feel sorry for them. They probably can't find enjoyment in anything.

"Mario Kart 8 effectively operates at 59fps with a subtle but continuous stutter visible on-screen."

It sounds like they are full of it. It's impossible to detect such a stutter, and they never seemed to consider the possibility that their equipment and programs are simply registering 59 frames when it is actually 60fps flat. I've seen it happen with FRAPS even on PC. These programs are amazing but not that perfect. 60fps is sometimes registered by a program as 59fps for various reasons.. DF seems to like trolling too much, and I guess that's why they are popular; because they give fanboys plenty of fuel for the fire.

Take anything DF says with a pinch of salt.

Game looks beautiful.

It is a bit freaky that a game like that gets pulled into all the pixel paranoia surrounding it's release on only one console. Guess they feel they have to keep busy and analyze everything to justify their paychecks.

game looks good to me and defiantly a step above the last gen.
Definitely, it just shows just how good Nintendo is in art direction. By choosing a proper style and sticking with it, you do not need to brute force everything.

Nintendo's screen shots and videos always look exactly like you would see the game while being played on the Wii U game pad. But on your TV the aliasing is much more evident.

Still a great looking game. But not as great looking as I was lead to belive.

No kidding. First party exclusive on the "last gen" system, the game looks awesome for such a "weak sauce" console.

TBH....I'm kind of getting fed up with sites like DF.
It is just over-saturation and fun killing.

Mario games/Kart have never been about the cutting edge in graphics. It is just about fun. The game looks like a blast and if I had the system I would play it.

Still have fond memories of Mario Kart 64, but I guess those memories would be better served counting pixels and tallying up framerates.

I just found the evil Weegie gives hilarious. And indeed, the amount of people looking to the resolution over how a game plays and looks... is just stunning. Mario Kart 8 looks and plays brilliant. There is litteraly nothing one can have against it on both counts, yet people still find something to complain about (naturally ofcourse ;)) and then blame it on the lack of horsepower in the Wii U.

All I know is that when I log into my Wii U to play some Mario Kart 8 I'm having tons of fun and cursing when I get hit :p. Now that defines a good game for me :).

BTW.. UNIONCUP!? When!? :p
