In what is shaping up to be a historic year for gamers, I’m delighted to share an important new milestone with you. PS4’s North American debut on November 15th was PlayStation’s largest ever, with more than one million gamers picking up a PS4 in just 24 hours. Now, with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold.

It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.

While PS4’s capabilities will continue to evolve, our commitment to gamers and breakthrough entertainment remains steadfast. We believe that videogames represent the pinnacle of artistry and entertainment, and we will work tirelessly to make sure that PlayStation remains the best place to play.

Thank you for your passion and your support — we couldn’t have done this without you.

PS4 is doing just fine. :)

PS4 is hot.... isn't it crazy how 0 consoles have sold in Japan and it's treated like a third world country now..... sad kinda but that's what they get I suppose.

I think the PS4 release for Japan is in Feb 2014, if not mistaken Sony have some Japanese games releasing in Feb for the PS4, so I guess it's fitting to release the system there with Japanese centric games in time those games are ready.

The Japanese market are not generally enticed by western style games, this is something Microsoft has learned throughout last gen. I mention Microsoft because both Sony and Nintendo are Japanese and understand the audiences there better than westernized corporations would.

Japan not changing with the times is the reason their sh1t got left behind......imo. OFF TOPIC.... if you would have said 8 years ago that the 360 would have bombed in Japan and still keep pace with the ps3 people would have laughed at you.

ON TOPIC....2.1 million consoles by dec1 is impressive regardless.

They must have not sold a million in Europe... there's no way they only sold 100k in Na since day 1.

I think if you'd have told people PS3 would launch at the price it did and always be the more expensive of the two consoles, launch a year later than the 360 and be 14 million or so behind in sales in North America and still basically tie the 360 in sales globally they wouldn't have believed that either. Last gen was definitely an interesting one for many reasons, I'm just glad we are finally moving on to a new one.

Tokyo, December 3, 2013 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that cumulative sell through for the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) computer entertainment system worldwide has surpassed 2.1 million units*1 as of December 1, 2013. The number includes the 700,000 units sold through in Europe and Australasia launching on November 29. The PS4 system became available on November 15 in the United States and Canada and on November 29 in Europe, Australasia and Latin America and is now available in 32 countries globally.

So 700k, about right for EU.

Sounds like a flamebait but anyways this. Last time I checked the console was selling really well on NA as well, but add 20 something markets and it's 'just' 2.1mil, a 20-something market that clearly favors PS4. Seems like they are just selling what they have, regardless of how many markets they are on.

Now I really want to check XB1's number.

Wow, that is impressive. I'm waiting for a better library of games, but I will have one.

Nice! PS4 just tied PSVita life time sales in what 2 weeks lol.

2.1 million is a lot. That's like Wii Status.

Good, I would think this means that the Ps4 will get more 3rd party support as well, I remember well with the Ps3 that some developers did not want to put games on it before they was pleased with its sales (was it Square Enix ?).

Will get myself a Ps4 a bit later on, think will wait a half year or sow, at least will get it before Uncharted 4 (or what they are gone call it) arrives.

Launching in more countries seems like a long term strategy. 400k in NA since launch is pretty good considering supply constraints.

So about 1.7m in the first 24-48 hours globally so far? Not counting the post-launch 400k.

awesome numbers, can't wait to get mine when infamous ss comes out and have a decent backlog

Very impressive numbers. Clearly they have focused on the US and UK as that where MS was the strongest last gen.I guess they feel the rest of Europe won't buy an Xbox One which they're probably correct as the Xbox One is an incredibly US-centric console. If they can get a sizeable stock of PS4's prepared for the new year an onward and release Driveclub in Jan/Feb they'll do amazing numbers in Europe as their is an insatiable desire for PS4's here.

Holy s***. Sony will pass lifetime Wii U sales within the first 6 months, easily. If they had the production capabilities to do it hit the numbers they could probably do it this year.

I just need Witcher 3 or thief to be release, then I will get one. The lack of next gen games is the major reason I am holding out for one.

To be honest, PS4 will sell well for launch in Japan, but I can't see it doing well there in long term, as they are not so interested in console now. But it will add a significant number for the system in the early age.

Things are looking good for Sony.

Good numbers. Betcha at least million of fans are still waiting for PS4 to arrive in US (back-order).
