I agree with the bolded part.

I'm not saying 4K is objectively important. That's part of why I said, "Put aside whether it's actually important or not." I'm talking about this from the point of view of why it would appeal to console warriors (and so, why the argument has gotten so toxic, going back to the OP).

I'm saying console warriors grab hold of 4K because it is a number. It feels hard and tangible. It feels like an "objective" metric, a true determinant of console worth.

I'm not saying they're right. I'm not saying it actually is an objective measure of worth. I think subjectivity and misunderstanding is all over this subject. I'm just trying to help explain why some people get so wound up about it. I think it's because it feels like hard and objective ammo for console wars.
Did you support the checkerboard rendering of Quantum Break?

I had a 4 paragraph post queued up and ready to go that i worked on in the early hours this morning but decided not to pull the trigger. Not worth it. The battle lines would be drawn and feelings would get hurt.

This whole thing is dumb, but i think we know who more or less started the resolution war and it didn't start this gen. No reason to point fingers though. I'm just doing what i've always done, and that's playing the games.

Quantum Break was a mixed bag visually. And I mean an extreme mixed bag. Some things looked stunning. And some things looked like they wouldn't be out out of place on the N64.

I think image quality matters...but it's down the list. I can't wait until we've reached a point where everyone agrees on it's diminishing returns. I'm really disappointed that physics and AI have taken step backs in order for power to be used on IQ. I said it in the Halo thread...Halo 5's AI is worse than Halo:CE. That's not nastalgia speaking. I played the game again right before Halo 5 released.

I'll be buying the X, a 4K tv and a 4K monitor. I just like having the best available for my hobby that I spend way too much time with. I'm excited for consistency. Anyone who played the Dancer in Dark Souls 3 on Xbox One could probably relate. Hard to beat a game that takes skill when frame rates fall to 10 FPS in the heat of battle.

My dearest darling Froz, yet another brilliant post (not that I expect anything less from one as amazing as you), but do you honestly believe that?

MS and Sony are aggressive about resolution and 4k, and MS seems to be wanting to keep generations open ended.

That makes me woried that they'll want future games to still work on Xbox One S even after the successor to the One X comes out.

I think a large part of the future of gaming will be dependent on their plans to keep supporting the older formats.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just worried, but hopeful.
I don't think they are going to support more than one down, honestly.

Yep. When X1X2 hits the X1 and X1S will be dropped and games will be made for X1X and enhanced on X1X2. Assuming they continue with this new model.

We may very well see a new generation after Scorpio.

Fair enough.

It's a shame more games haven't gone the driveatar route for A.I. Imagine something like FIFA or Madden where the A.I was based on real players. It would be so much better than the bullcrap, cheating A.I we see in FIFA.

The latest NHL 18 beta is a joke. Not only don't they improve the AI, it actually gets worse. I refuse to buy their games anymore. They are focusing only on online. The games are almost unplayable offline.

That they are. Which is all the more reason to use the driveatar style A.I.

If they charging the price of new gen console, then no, I don't think so.

Expectations come with the price tag.

Yes! I thought it was only a matter of time this gen. So damned disappointed they can't use data from online gaming to boost computer AI. Even NFL 2K used to save human player tendencies that you could attach to your computer AI for offline play. Even if it wasn't perfect, it would playing against the computer much more dynamic. It's not just that AI is bad...it's that it's super limited, scripted and predictable.

I expect 8K in 2018 with the PS5. I also expect a multi-disc changer and a mini fridge built into the console.

The next generation of consoles should be released digitally. Lol @ owning a physical console....

No way. That's like buying a smart TV. Who does that? Why wouldn't you at least want a physical box to look at, trade in for money when upgrading? Like i say for digital games, okay if they're all super cheap and there's a real benefit other than being lazy.

Ya'll trying to push the future on us way too fast. Settle down.

Where are her nipples!? Not in the right spot! That's where!

digital has its own perks Cause it'll always be in the cloud incase u ever go back..i always buy digital games that I really like incase I sell the system and ever want to play it again..cd copies ill buy if I'm on the edge about the game

This is the last generation for me (PS Pro and X1X) in terms of the next 5-8 years anyway, I bought 3 new 4K sets over the past 3 years and can't see the need for another console that will be playing games at 4k.

I won't be buying any Television sets either so that plays a BIG part in my decision.
