If it's not a grind fest, I don't mind. The reason I did not play the AC starring tanned pantless Geralt is due to what I heard how grindy the game is.

Origins isn't grindy much at all. You can run through most of the main quests and be at the level you need to be at most of the time so you maybe only want/need to do side quests on occasion.

Odyssey on the other hand uhh. I hate level scaling and this game lets you turn it down a bit but I still find my self doing a bunch of side quests just to get stuff to upgrade and if I don't at some point my gear will be to low to get through even the main quests.

Level scaling is lazy design.

I didn't play a single AC game this gen (despite owning some...), but this one is interesting me. If it scores well, I'm going to be tempted to put a week into it before Cyberpunk.

Great game but looooooong. Especially since it came out not long after Origins. I got 25 hours in and I'm not even close to the end.

The gameplay is great fun, but it just gets super repetitive after some time. Ubisoft is probably one of my favorite game makers in recent years, but they make their games far too long and repetitive.

The problem is there's little different from the start to the later areas. The enemies just have a higher level, and you need a higher level to beat them. The tactics are still all the same.

Never understood the grind critique of Odyssey, put in over 100h, never a dull moment.
I had the same feeling until I bought some of the expansions...primarily the Atlantis thing. I got sick of that pretty quickly, but I spent well over 100 hours on the main game and didn't grow tired of it.

Haven't played an AC DLC since that free Jack the ripper one for Unity. I'm usually perfectly full when I finish an AC game, in a good way.
AC is the only series of open world games that I can get myself to finish without taking breaks and play other games in between.
Imo, best series to come out this century.

I really hate the animation. It's so lifeless. Loved it in Unity though. They haven't improved it since the change in Origins. The weird way their legs move, and it just doesn't feel like the weight is right.

This is exactly how I felt. Got to a point where all the quests seemed the same and I was only like maybe a third of the way through the game. Couldn't take it anymore lol. Just felt like work after a while.

Yeah, the problem is that there's no difference between a level 10 enemy and a level 30, other than the fact that you need to be level 30 to beat them. The gameplay loop is the same.

The way to beat missions and take down forts is exactly the same no matter what and has been for a couple of games now. There's some skills you can unlock along the way, but it doesn't really change the basic gameplay.

I enjoy the game and the exploration of the massive open world is great, but it hits a rut for sure.

I think for me AC3 is the last time I really enjoyed the series (though Brotherhood is my favorite entry.) I couldn't even put in 5 hours on Unity before giving up on it. I've put a bit of time in on Syndicate and Origins but don't think I beat either of them, have Odyssey but never opened it... I'll rent Valhalla.

Too much potatoing in this thread.

AC is a better series than pretty much anything multiplatform this gen.

Disagree, but it's a totally subjective claim. For me, AC fell from grace probably more so than any other franchise this gen...

I played the hell out of origins and odyssey and enjoyed every minute of it out of the both of them. I can't wait to play Valhalla. Especially after binge watching the last kingdom.

I think they are great games but also way too long and repetitive. I love the AC series, and honestly I enjoy Odyssey more than RDR2 and Jedi Fallen Order combined. Ubisoft does the same thing with Farcry too though. Far too many loops around the exact same mechanics.

I mean, I'm level 25 in Odyssey and most of the way through the vanilla stuff (I think) and I really have a hard time carrying on. The only reason I keep playing is it is a perfect game on my lunch hour. How many more times can I hide in a bush and stab a guy?

Tons of new preview videos out for this, looks pretty cool to me. I love the setting, going to need to wait for reviews and info on the Series X improvements though with Cyberpunk coming so closely after.

PC Gamer has a preview and says the game is pretty similar to Odyssey except for the open sea stuff (that I think most people hated).

That sounds good, but I don't know if it is day 1 kind of good.

I've grown to love Assasin's Creed. Both Origins and Odyssey felt like I got my money's worth even at Day 1 MSRP. However with Cyberpunk launching so close to it, I can't in good consience pick this up day 1 and devote the time to it that its going to require.

I loved the original AC and jumped off after Ezio. I'm interested in picking this up, but will have to wait because I know how long this will take me and prefer to play Cyberpunk first.

I like that they are trying to mix up the side quests. Some of this actually makes me think of AC 3, which is good. I'm coming around on it but it's no day 1...

I loved the open sea stuff, loved all of the naval stuff since it was introduced in AC3.

This game is coming along graphically, it looked rough for a long time but the faces have improved quite a bit as has the overall fidelity, I already have it pre-ordered for PS5 so I am very much looking forward to playing it.
