Official Thread Avowed - Fall 2024

Already seen everything I need. Never played a bad Obsidian game and this doesn't look like that will break that streak.
Yeah Im in. They did confirm skill trees too which is great.

Makes me want to get back and play PoE in the meantime. Never finished it

Want to start POE 2 before this.

▪️You're the "envoy", a representative of the Aedyrian Empire and the emperor himself investigating the 'spiritual plague'
▪️Player centric approach: select your weapon loadouts, throwables, which companions to bring along
▪️Variety of enemies: healers, brute melee characters, brute ranged, magic users etc
▪️Mix and match weapons between both hands, dual wield pistols, wands, etc, parry with shield, use one handed weapons
▪️Example: Light the ground on fire then use 'Into the Fray' ability to pull an enemy into the fire
▪️Mix and match abilities in skill tree, allowed to re-spec
▪️Use elemental abilities to unlock new areas to explore (ex: freeze water to create new paths)
▪️Companions all come from different regions of the world, personal reasons for joining you, provide context and commentary about the world and their stories
▪️Kai and Giatta are two confirmed companions + more
▪️Zones are large open areas with multiple paths and ways to tackle encounters or skip them, Leviathan Hollow is completely missable (dev direct area)

I think Bioware, Larian, CDProject and Bethesda have got me accustomed to having romance-able companions. I find the lack of them odd given how much of a staple it is but not game breaking. Does seem like Obsidian is moving away from it in general as The Outer Worlds didn't have it either.

I'm fine without it. While some are well done (Tali ME2) most of the time it comes off as cheesy.

If romance is in the game, I'll partake. If it isn't, I won't miss it at all. Makes 0 difference to me.

I should add that I am glad the team is listening to the feedback and addressing the concerns with the combat.

I can't wait for this but I can't but feel a little disappointed with how they're going about this game. Seems like their trying to do a medieval The Outer Worlds type game. And while that's fine, I was kinda hoping for something more, something grander given who's backing them. Seems like its something built in Obsidian's DNA to stay with these smaller scale projects regardless of resources.

Obsidian began work on Avowed before Microsoft bought Bethesda. They originally drafted a concept similar in scope to Skyrim, but ended up condensing the game world. I'm not sure if that's due to engine limitations/conflicting pipelines or simply because Obsidian doesn't want to spend two console generations developing one project.

I don't have an issue with a smaller game world in an RPG if there's great depth in the content. Deus Ex and that ilk are some of my all-time favorites. We'll see if Avowed 2 uses the creation engine, but as of right now Unreal 5 needs a few more updates until it arrives. Typical of Epic honestly.

It's a cool background, but nothing will get me to replace the OG Xbox throwback background.

It's interesting to see so many people enjoying the cover art, and then claiming to hate the art of the actual game. It'll be interesting to see how much polish the game assets get leading up to launch. I personally am happy with the art style, but I'm probably the only person who is sick of the "photo-scanned" look in videogames.
