Definitely not a turd. I figured it would get mixed reviews. It deserves to exist. Its worthwhile variety. I was in a good mood playing it.

The game is surprisingly competent. No earth shattering or mind blowing but a good time waster when you don't know what to play next.
I'll still die on the hill of " No online co-op was a mistake" though.

Really? Tried to get through it after getting taste for the genre again after playing through SoR4 (and 1,2 and 3) a few dozen times, but...I thought it was hilariously bad?
Will they release online coop at a later time through an update?

Yep! Its pretty solid. I outright laughed out loud a few times. The combat is cool too once you figure out how to string combos together. I'm of the mind that if its an Xbox game being reviewed, its best to play the game for yourself and see if it speaks to you. BT is a lot of fun to me.

It's reviewing just how I thought it would. People either really like it because it feels different than any other 2D retro style game on the market, or they despise it. Game Informer considered it one of the worst things they played this year while Lamen Gaming really liked it. I believe it's what Microsoft was looking for honestly. Mixed reviews aren't a bad thing for subs. You'd rather have 8's and 5's (as long as there's a solid section of 8's) than all 7's.
I'm replaying it and enjoying it as much the 2nd playthrough. The beat em up portions are better once you're comfortable with all the moves including using tags for combos.
Man, if this was like mostly a brawler with expansive moves/attacks to upgrade and such, with the other stuff being light, it would be a 9/10. Like a brawler/metroidvania/platformer + quirky side stuff...

I played on normal, it's a decent challenge but there are some safety nets in there that keep it from being overbearing, like: infinite continues, lots of close check points, downed toads are respawnable after a short period of time and even auto checkpoints within bossfights that allow you to comeback with lots of health. So some of the stuff will test your head a bit but there's a very fluffy cushion to make it reasonable; especially in comparison to the original, lol, that game was a nightmare.
It's a lot cooler with teammates to help with the work load as well, but with no online co-op, I was left with a scrub 4 year old who only plays Untitled Goose Game and a 6 year old who throws her controller if Minecraft isn't on peaceful mode, so, hopefully they get the online co-op going soon.

It is hard on easy. The visuals throw you off. You be straight thinking you gonna slay every baddie that comes at you but then, before you know it, you're pressing the X load button so much you get King fu thumb. Its bulls***.. Lol

Played with my girls on Friday; they loved it. My wife is getting a little tired of hearing them talk about it 3 days later, lol.
