First and foremost I want to say hello to fellow Teamxbox refugees who didn't drown in bots on the old site . Now as a gamer and collector I would like to say this for anyone who doesn't know already beware of Gamestop !

My girlfriend recently went out of town and purchased two copies of Dead or Alive Ultimate one for her and one as a gift . Both where supposedly "new" when she bought them and she was charged the price for new copies . One of the copies was missing the cellophane wrapper but had the xbox seal still intact . So I open it put the disc in the tray only to realize that it is not ultimate it was the old version of the game .

Now it is a big hassle trying to actually get a copy of the game that was supposed to be in the case and new . So just remember if you don't have to go to Gamestop don't go . You may be paying for used goods with a new sticker .

Gamestop is known for opening new games and placing them into drawers for "space concerns" which makes zero sense. They once tried to sell me one of these games and I refused. I asked the manager, if it's "new" but out of the wrapped packaging, then can I return it in 5 hours after I complete the campaign and it still be new? I mean it's their definition of new. I rarely shop there unless there's a good preorder bonus.

Another thing they like to do is if they have one copy of a new game left that copy gets opened, the box placed out on the floor, and the disk placed behind the counter.

I've seen them try to pull this on more than one occasion. Years ago I bought a PC game which included a CD Key that you needed to play online. I got home and found the seal on the bottom was cut, and my cd key was already in use.

I have seen supposed "new" copies of 360 games with the seal cut open too.

People need to stop shopping there. Just google all the different complaints people have about this store.

My games need to be wrapped. I pay too much to have someone else mess with the disc itself. I don't care what your reason is. I have my reasons too.

I use to pre-order from Gamestop. Have receipt in hand to pick up my game, only to wait 10-30 minutes while others are trying to sell used games. They would walk away and bring another game to the counter. My transaction took 1 minute. Game was always paid in full. I also had to listen to every deal and promotion they had.

No more. I mostly pre-order from Amazon.

Pretty much the only thing they get from me at this point are when I decide to impulse (no pun intended) used games, mostly for my son. They screwed me over on the 360 launch and didn't bother telling me my preorder wasn't going to be good until a few days before, at which point it was too late for any reasonable efforts to get one.

Huh, I've never bought an unsealed new game from GS. The GS I frequent is the best one I've ever used by far though and the people working there seem like good people. Hell, they were willing to ship an X1 to me in Denver that I have paid off. Thankfully I won't be moving to Denver until the weekend after X1 releases so that won't be necessary anymore.

Record stores do this a lot too. I've had the "shouldn't you be selling this at a used price" conversation with them before, but of course, the 22 year old kid who didn't finish high school behind the register isn't going to see it my way.

I don't buy new games from them. Only on very rare occasions, do I buy used games from them, but that's it.

I went to trade some dumpy old games to get GTAIV and they only gave me $20. Now i'm boycotting Gamestop.

As someone who used to manage a Gamestop store (it's been a long time) I can tell you I left right when they started getting shady. It used to be, back in the Software Etc days, a good place to go for gaming advice. Now it's little more than a cult trying to get you to buy more of their s***.

I remember once they tried hard to sell me a used version vs a new copy for Darkness II. It was on sale for $20 new and came with all kinds of goodies. Something that may or may not come with a used version.

I used them for the first time with GTA V on the Xbox 360 this past week and didn't have any problems. The day after I purchased Grand Theft Auto I returned the copy on the Xbox 360 (Still in it's shrink wrap) and swapped it for a Playstation 3 copy without a receipt and no hassle.

Im not sure if any of you have a Hastings store or not, but I was at my local Hastings store in Missoula here, and all there new games are now open without a disk. You take the cover box to the front counter and they give you the new disk and charge you 59.99. They have done this with the Wii-U, PS3, Xbox 360. All new games are now opened and stored in a cabinet. I will never purchase a new game without the shrink wrap on it and the seal intact. Needless to say I sure wont purchase new games at Hastings anymore.

I has major problems a few months back in regard to my subscription to game informer and their overly aggressive pushing on preorders. They would get mad at me when I didn't purchase the preorder. One time one of the little punks made comments as I left the store. They are one of my chief reasons of going all digital this gen and I hope the company goes under like all the mom and pop ones that they caused to in my area.

Yeah, i don't buy any games i want new at GameStop unless it came out within a 1-3 month range. After that all bets are off. Most of the time they try selling you a 'new' copy that's been opened and the employees have taken home to play. I didn't know new games came with cheeto stains and scratches on them.

Incorrect. We remove the games and place them in drawers and use the cases on the shelves at displays either in the new release section or new games section.

It's new because it's never been sold and never been in a console. All you have to do is decline and look for it elsewhere. In my 8 plus years working part time there I have only had a couple people complain about it. Some people are a little more picky and I can respect that just don't make up stuff because you don't agree with the reasoning.

Right... because none of the employees take these games home to "sample" them.

I'm not saying this happens at every single store, but just Google it and see for yourself.

Gamestop is only good for buy 2 and get 1 free deal on used games... That's the ONLY occasion when i venture into its stores...

Rarely. And if they are returned in any way that shows any wear they have to buy them and they are banned from renting from the store again. Most games that are rented are used since the company isn't a fan of new games leaving the store.

But that wasn't his argument, it was yours.

Just passing on what I've been told by a GameStop employee. Very simple to have a printout in a dummy case without opening up a new copy. What happens if a person buys it "new" and wants to return it because they found it cheaper elsewhere? Would an employee allow this never played "new" game for a refund?

This kind of stuff is why I wish both consoles went with the "no used games" policy that was rumored. Would have sunk GameStop in a week.

A print out and a dummy cases cost money and looks bad. And we reseal the game so if you change your mind and the seal is not broken that we placed on the game it can be returned. So yes.

And this is a good thing how? I mean they only employee 17k, most of them high school and college students. And used games allow many less fortunate to enjoy gaming.

I very, very, very rarely shop at GS. In fact I haven't bought anything there since their last +50% on trades when I got nearly $200 in game trades and bought $200 in steam cards. Still, they've tried the "it's new but we had to open it for..." before they could finish I was already out the door. The only reason I shopped there so frequently when I was living in Vegas is that GS was literally out my back door (go out my back door, jump the fence and I was in the alley behind their shop) and the employee's were actually really cool informed gamers.

So, you admit that it happens, and that there's a store policy out there allowing it. This isn't something that a few disgruntled gamers make up. You can google tons and tons of people telling the same story all over the country.
