Didn't realize you already made a thread for this but I tossed one over in the multiplat section.

Anyways, game looks f***ing killer. Like oldschool God of War and Sekiro had a love child.

Boss character models, especially that furry wolf looking one, are SPECTACULAR!

Be sure to check out the website, there's a link in the game title, they've got some other shots of the character models on there that are equally great. The quality is ridiculous.

This absolutely looks next gen to me. The souls like aspect of it doesn't appeal to me but its still worth a look.

Finally! So I lived in China for awhile, speak/read basic Mandarin, and while living back in the US, have spent thousands of hours meditating with Chinese nationals over the last 20+ years.

My Chinese friends talked about this story constantly. ‘Journey To The West’ is a massive story at least on the level of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. But there are also Buddhist and Taoist teachings deeply interwoven in it, so it can be enjoyed on different levels.

They’ve tried to make movies about it, but it’s never really been given a big-budget push, which always surprised me.

This game looks like it could be the thing to really get the story out to other cultures. Honestly it’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever read, especially if you’re interested in Eastern culture/philosophy.

Game looks pretty sweet, I'm not normally drawn to souls-likes, assuming thats what this is. Bo-staffs are under utilized weapons in videogames though...

It seems to have taken some inspiration from the Souls series, but it doesn't look like it is supposed to be a Souls clone. If anything it seems more God of Warish than Souls-esque.

Even better...

Which is funny because polearms are historically the most effective weapons. Swords are just cool though. I also hate how the "katana" is so focused on when it was essentially considered a side arm in battle.

Wukong, also known as the Monkey God, used stuff, not polearm because he is supposed to be a monk. He was from a classic novel call Journey to the West where he was a task to assist his master Monk to the founding place of Buddhism in India to get sacred Buddhist scriptures. In his journey, they met many demons that wanted to kill & eat the master Monk as his fresh grant immortality, which is probably what inspired the game.

There is a historical reason Shaolin Monk used stuff.

When they were traveling, the staff acted as a walking stick. hence it makes sense to train them to use it as a weapon in self-defense when needed.

Anyway for those who like Martial art, this is one of the best staff fighting scenes in the cinema when Jet Li & Donnie Yen (IP Man) were at their peak. Anyway, Jet Li was a Chinese martial art champion which path the way to his action star career.

Donnie yen is an absolute beast with the pole arms, can't remember the exact name, it was quite a Chinese movie, but he looked absolutely insane using the spear, damn now I gotta find it and report back, it was such a good movie.
