I didn't pay attention to many family drama / comedy based animated shows. I do think very early Simpson, Homer was closer to being like Al Bundy. I mean not exactly, but the humor was about him winding up in absurd situations, but over time he himself just became absurd or stupid. I think he used to actually be cunning and throw a few joke barbs back and people or have some good sarcasm.
The most balanced cartoon dad though was probably Hank Hill. He wasn't dumb but some humor was around his kind of Texas conservative personality, try to kind of go with the flow when encountering modern or unconventional social trends.
