Daniel John Zeitz, a former pro gamer also known as Phobos, has been shot and killed in a bungled attempt to steal his PS4 console, according to police in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
Zeitz had organised the sale of his console via Craigslist, and had arranged to meet 20 year-old Nathaniel Vivian and his 16 year-old girlfriend in an apartment parking lot for the exchange. Upon their arrival, however, Vivian reportedly grabbed Zeitz's console and tried to throw it in their car.
While Zeitz and the man struggled with the console, it's alleged that Vivian's unnamed girlfriend - with her 16 month-old baby sitting in the back seat, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution - fired a shot from a .25 caliber handgun which passed through her boyfriend's hand and struck Zeitz in the chest, killing him.
Both suspects have since been arrested, caught when Vivian attempted to have his gunshot wound treated at a nearby hospital. The Huffington Post says the shooter, despite being 16, will now be tried as an adult.
Friends, family and well-wishers can help cover the costs of Daniel's funeral by donating to this GoFundMe page.

Sad. I briefly heard about this story the other day, but didn't know it involved a crazy GF or a Craigslist deal. Initially I thought he got burglarized and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I've done a handful of CL deals myself. Always the seller since I don't trust buying stuff from some random dude. Will make me think twice next time I try to sell some games. Love em of hate em, at least trading games into Futureshop or Gamestop doesn't involve this kind of risk.

Looking at that mugshot, I wouldn't trust that guy one bit.

From the link....

UPDATE: The 16-year-old girl will now be charged as an adult, though her name hasn't yet been released.

Vivian was held without bond in the Fulton County Jail. The child was turned over to the girl's relatives.

Zeitz -- known to his online buddies as Phobos -- was a well-respected gamer whose teammates have rallied to support his family with a GoFundMe page to cover his funeral costs. The cause has already raised more than $14,500.

K.L. Smith, Zeitz's online teammate and friend who helped start the fundraiser, told The Huffington Post that their team members may have been the last to speak to the victim.

"Shortly before the shooting he was playing with his other teammates and said, 'Hey guys, I'll be right back,'" Smith said Tuesday morning. "I guess that's when he went outside to do this Craigslist deal and got shot."

Smith, known online as arCtiC, posted a heartfelt video on YouTube remembering his buddy as a kind soul who reached out whenever their friends were down.

"Danny was one of those rare people that has all the right qualities -- super nice and friendly to people he didn't know," Smith told HuffPost Crime. "He was always helping his teammates, his family, his friends. It always hurts to have to see how much someone means to everyone else when they're gone."

What a sad thing, a seemingly great guy loses his life and two losers ruin theirs. The one good thing is if you look at the page for donations it's at almost $20k, that has to be a small comfort to his loved ones to see so many people trying to help.

Why would you agree to do the exchange in a parking lot anyway ? regardless, is kind of pathetic what people will do for unimportant things. Shooting somebody for a PS4 is just lolz, but also deeply disturbing.

That's one of the things that sucks, we should live in a world where you can meet someone in a parking lot to sell something and not worry about being murdered but unfortunately we don't. My sister sold a lot of things on craigslist when she was moving and I hated her doing it. She always met them in public places during the day but still you never know what types of psychos there are out there.

Taking a life and throwing theirs away over a used Gaming console?!, that kind of person just needs to be exterminated.

This is a sad world we live in today. It's ugly out there folks.

A small part of me believes if he were a pc gamer this wouldn't have happened.

Seriously though I'm too paranoid to meet someone I don't know in a parking lot. Go into a McDonalds or Starbucks or something. Better yet do what a few people I know do, bring backup. Strength in numbers.

It's hard to believe that people can be THIS stupid in real life...

It almost sounds fabricated. Oh well just goes to show you people and thinking before commiting an action don't go well together anymore.

Really sad news. RIP.

That's why whenever I meet up to buy/sell locally, I meet up at a public place with lots of crowd or eye witnesses just in case.

That is most unfortunate. How f***ing stupid must that girl and her boyfriend feel now sitting in jail over killing a guy for a video game system? Not to mention the girl (16 yrs old) ruined her whole f***ing life before it even began. Murder will follow her from now till the day she dies. Any hope of either one of them having a prosperous life just went down the shoot. People are idiots...

Jesus. Think about when they both try to get jobs (after prison) or at family gatherings/functions and people ask why they were locked up. LOL. f***ing embarrassing.
