Was watching a "top 40 rpgs" video yesterday and Darksiders 2 was mentioned. While it may not be a pure RPG, it seems to have some RPG elements, according to the reviewer.

So yeah, I may have overlooked this title. The reviewer mentioned the game has fun loot as well that makes a significant difference in your character. He also made some comparisons to Dark souls (minus the crushing difficulty).

What do you guys think?

Never played, but most people who did seem to do so. Too bad it was the swan song of THQ and was likely the last of the series. That said, I don't consider it an RPG. Having some RPG elements doesn't make a game an RPG IMO. Same for when people call Legend of Zelda games an RPG. If it were as simple as that, I could call WWE 2k14 an RPG since you can completely customize the style and attributes of whatever character you create.

Yeah. I don't really care how it's labelled, but the doofus also had a few other titles in his "TOP RPG" list that are most definitely NOT rpgs (like Bioshock infinite).

Anyways, let's just roll with "an action game with RPG elements" :) If it's that, kind of like Dark souls, or even RPG-lite elements, I think I might enfckingjoy it. But in order to stop me from making an impulsive buy, because I'm an impulsive guy, I need opinions, like stat.

Like I said, most people seemed to really enjoy it. It favorable reviews from many websites and magazines. I don't see any reason not to buy it. It's cheap, fun, and it's the perfect time of year to enjoy a lengthy game like this. Might take a trip to my gamestop and buy both just to have them in my collection. I loved the demo for the original Darksiders. Never got around to getting either game though.

Admittedly I did play the first game for a few hours but lost interest. Note that isn't necessarily the game's fault; this happens to me a lot. The sequel is supposed to have more open-world-ish gameplay, which I do enjoy, and some customization, which I also enjoy.

It's $20 used, I'd rather buy it new to support the devs, but for a game that's been out 16 months or so, it's still $59 on games on demand xbox store, and $40 new in our local game stores. Like, yeah, no.

Don't worry about that. Vigil is defunct.

I liked it a lot, it was more action oriented but still had some decent rpg elements I enjoyed.

Loved it also,it still has some of the great dungeons like the first and all..the only thing is that they maybe tried to do too much and it ended up missing some soul, some atmosphere...but at the new low prices and all, still well worth it.

Awesome game, upgrade weapons, tons of weapons, LEGENDARY weapons, dungeons, bosses, big world, collecting stuff. Fighting guys and stuff. Ride a f***ing horse.

Darksiders II is AMAZING.

No, let me re-phrase that.

It's A-FVCKING-MAZING!

I've loved every second I've played of it. It's like Zelda meets Soul Reaver. I need to get back to it but BF4 and Batman Origins keep hogging my time. And now I've got Metro Last Light really pulling me in as well.

I liked it, I think i set the bar a little too high for my self though and grew a bit tired with it. But the exploration and dungeon crawling is up there with the best, great combat with lots of weapons. Some epic set pieces, damn i need to get my ass back to Eden!!

This is one game I regret never picking up. If I ever see a cheap copy I might grab it.

Picked it up, so far I really like it. Some aspects reminds me of Soul Reaver, I'm not sure why but they do. It's not as dark, but the world and atmosphere are eerily reminiscent. The music is great and the combat fun so far. The only thing that bugs me, and I might adapt eventually, is the camera. For one, during combat, it's a mess and two, when you move your guy around with the left stick, it will sort of auto-follow, and this option cannot be disabled, so I'm constantly fighting with it.

Other than that, it's great and I'll likely play it through till the end.

Darksiders Designer Suggests "Exciting News" Soon

Darksiders may be coming back soon, according to series creative designer Joe Madureira. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse-themed action adventure game franchise has been on hiatus since the closure of publisher THQ last year, but new owner Nordic Games looks to be planning a comeback.

Speaking on Facebook, Madureira responded to enquiries about the status of the Darksiders series, saying “Darksiders – DS is not dead!!! The new owner, Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon!!!!!!”
The question is, how soon is soon? E3 2014 soon? This year soon? Before the real apocalypse arrives soon? We have no choice but to sit and wait.

Exciting ‘Darksiders’ News Coming Soon, Says Former Creative Director
http://gamerant.com/darksiders-3-news-coming-soon/

When THQ declared bankruptcy back in 2012, the future of the publisher’s franchises (from WWE to Saints Row) was called into question. Luckily, many of those properties were auctioned off to new publishers, and they have found new life at their new homes

Either way, the good news is more Darksiders is presumably on the way. The hope is that new publisher/developer Nordic Games will be able to build on Vigil’s success, and hopefully bring us closer to the four-player co-op experience fans had been clamoring for. Shortly after the THQ auction, Madureira revealed that was the plan all along – four-player co-op, next-gen, and a battle with Lucifer – but unfortunately that never came to be.

Now that the franchise has found new life, perhaps those ideas will come to roost again; that is, if they weren’t copyright to Vigil Games or THQ. There are still at least two more stories to tell within the Darksiders lore – one each for the horsemen Strife and Fury – so there are clearly places for Nordic to go before the inevitable four player co-op extravaganza. Perhaps we’ll hear more of Nordic Games’ plan at E3 2014.

THQ trademark acquired by Nordic Games

A representative from Nordic Games revealed to Polygon that they have acquired the THQ trademark and will be publishing games under the THQ name.

General Manager Klemens Kruezer said that Nordic has recently recently closed a separate agreement for the trademark, one that was negotiated outside of the 2013 bankruptcy auctions where Nordic acquired numerous parts of the THQ catalog including the Darksiders series.

Kruezer says that the agreement will allow Nordic to publish titles, potentially including the upcoming MX vs ATV, with THQ branding.

"It was kind of surprise to some industry veterans and players that we were the winner of the auction of the THQ titles," Kruezer said. "The challenging fact is nobody has ever heard about Nordic Games before [the THQ auction]. There were so many articles with the headlines ‘Who the f*** is Nordic Games?’ We said, okay they were right.

"We have seen an uplift in the name of Nordic Games, and what we have also done is we have made a second deal with THQ where we bought the THQ trademark."

Kruezer says that Nordic currently has the credentials of the THQ Facebook page and that a post made on June 10th regarding the upcoming MX vs ATV title was made by his team. That post was initially met with skepticism, with some Facebook users questioning if it was legitimate.

"We are small team," Kruezer said. "The expectations from outside regarding the IPs of THQ are really high. We see it everyday on our Facebook sites. If we post something new to a project the first comments are, ‘Oh, nice. But what about Darksiders 3?’

"This is where we need some more patience from the fans, because we want to be able to do it right. The owner of Nordic Games has given [interviews] where he has said that he doesn’t want to make a s***ty sequel."

He said that when his team is ready they will have something new to say about Darksiders. He also said that more announcements were coming at the Gamescom convention in August.

I haven't been interested in THQ since they were in their heyday with Tony Hawk Pro Skater on the N64.

Red Faction: Guerilla 2 and Darksiders 3 are "definite" possibilities, says Nordic Games
"Just watch out. Check out what we're announcing."

Nordic Games is still making its mind up about the future of Darksiders and Red Faction, two of the licenses it acquired from now-dead THQ. That product development director Reinhard Pollice is happy to talk concepts at length could be a good sign, however.
Speaking to GenGame, Pollice observed that "the Darksiders franchise is well lined out, in terms of what gameplay mechanics worked out really well", adding that "Darksiders I and II teased certain things [plot developments] and obviously we don't want to disappoint people.

"So we really want to sit back a bit, take a look at what possible angles we can take for the next Darksiders game, and also work with the right people on that," he added.
Many of those who worked on the IP are now employed at Crytek's USA studio, formed by ex-Vigil staffers. "They still love Darksiders," Pollice noted. "I don't know if they will tell it publicly, but they do. We are talking to those guys, but that's all I want to say right now."

Apparently, Vigil "never had a fully lined out plan" or "concept... in terms of gameplay" for the third game in the series. "They are all pretty open to what it can be," said Pollice. Four-player co-op is "one possibility", though Pollice thinks "it shouldn't be a fixed four-player thing, it also needs a good single player. A lot of Darksiders fans want to have a single player experience as well."
So when can we expect an announcement? "Definitely don't pull it off the radar," Pollice teased. "Just watch out. Check out what we're announcing. There will be a future for Darksiders. There has to be a future for Darksiders... and it will be awesome. Darksiders is always awesome and it will continue to be awesome. It's a rule. That's like a rule. In the rules of the world, it is written, Darksiders must be be awesome, or is awesome."
A pretty safe bet, then. Red Faction's prospects aren't quite as easy to read, alas, though in a heart-jumping turn of events, Nordic has considered putting together a sequel to Red Faction: Guerilla, which is popularly considered to be the finest of the franchise's Xbox 360 outings.

"We are at a similar phase as with Darksiders, but probably a bit behind compared to Darksiders," Pollice hedged. "I wouldn't say it's not happening... it could happen quite fast.
"For Red Faction, the whole series has undergone many changes. Part I and II were very [much about] level geometry, deformation, and destruction. Red Faction Guerrilla and Armageddon were mainly just about destroying objects that were not too key for gameplay. I think there needs to be a way to combine those two angles and takes on Red Faction.

The single best 3rd party game on the U imo gets a re-release .

I'm kind of confused. Why is it getting a re-release on the same exact platform it already was on? Were there issues convincing Nintendo to let them patch the game?
