Anyone have enough experience with ddr5 or know about if lower CL's are worth the premium price over higher CL and similar MHz speeds for real world gaming performances ? I'm deciding between these two sets of RAM and their respective price / performance:

Which one would you go for? I know the Corsair set will probably perform better but is it worth the almost 50% premium in price?

CPU is I7 13700kf and it's a Lenovo Intel Z790 based chipset mobo.

I have the same CPU. Fast as hell, but I f*cked up when I upgraded with the motherboard without further research. I got a Z90 motherboard that only supported DDR4 and not DDR5. I already had assembled it and the last thing to put in was the ram. The DDR5 ram I bought didn't fit, so I had to use the DDR4 from my old machine. When all was said and done, I upgraded to the fastest DDR 4 I could find. I was too lazy to disassemble the new build and then reassemble it with a Z90 DDR5 motherboard.

Anyway, the DDR5 I was going to use for my current machine, recommended by Gamer Nexus based on performance/cost, was this:

My Lenovo mobo is based on Intel Z790 chipset but I can't seem to find the newest bios to support my 2 RAM I'm testing.

I bought these 2 sets and The Corsair set won't POST to Win 11 when I set XMP profile on. I tried AUTO boost and max it would do is DDR5-4800 at 1.4v. On the other hand, the cheaper TeamGroup Vulcan posts perfectly at DDR5-6000 and no issues so far running at advertised timings at 1.25V. So weird. Just bad silicon lotto draw?

Bad ram or bios XMP timings weren't properly set at ram specs? In that case, I would have set the timings manually instead of having the bios do it.

I tried setting it too and it didn't work. Might be just a weird handshake issue with the RAM and the mobo OR it just can't do 1.4V RAM.

Last bios update was July 27 2023. The older version bios didn't accept any RAM running above DDR5-5600 so I tried updating to latest maunally and through the Lenovo Vantage app, says I have it already. The TeamGroup runs great at DDR5-6000 thus far at advertised timings, it's just the corsair. I am thinking either handshake issue or the mobo can't do 1.4V for the ram.

What was your old build like?

What was your old build like?
Early 2018 build, 9700k, 1080ti, 32GB Crucial DDR4-3000, 512GB SSD WD Blue nvme, 2x Kingston 480GB SATA SSD. I will give this to the waifu so she can give her old 2016 build to her dad (i7-6800k, 16GB, GTX 1070, 512gb nvme ssd, 2TB HDD) :)

I'll post the new build in the rig thread.
