With people already pre-loading Destiny as early as Friday, and various media outlets (including PlayStation LifeStyle) already receiving their review copies, the big question now is: what time will Bungie flip the switch for players?

The answer to that, it seems is a day before its official launch on September 9. Yes, you read that right. Bungie’s Destiny servers will be up onSeptember 8 at the following times:

  • 7 a.m. EDT
  • 4 a.m. PDT
  • 12 noon GMT
So, if you’re one of the people who managed to snag an early retail disc from stores who doesn’t think much of following Activision’s planned retail launch day, you’ll be able to play just a wee bit earlier than expected. We’ve reached out to Activision to see if people who purchased the game digitally will be able to take advantage of this situation.

Make sure to check back on September 9 for PSLS’ Destiny coverage before our official review from Chandler Wood drops within the week. We’ve already brought out the whip and energy drinks to make sure he doesn’t sleep (that much) so he can have a proper review for our readers in time.

You can check out our impressions from the Destiny alpha right here. For those buying the PlayStation 3 version of the game, don’t forget that you can upgrade it to the PS4 version for free.

Are you picking Destiny up regardless if reviews hit on time or not? And for those who already have a retail disc and able to play early, which class are you starting out with? I personally might roll with an Exo Warlock first for some of that sweet space magic.

Looks like I might be playing tomorrow night. :)

Post if you get on and what platform.

Servers should be up in about 11 hours and 40 minutes here in NZ.

I have a feeling it will not be available early on Xbox One at least. Right now the My Games & Apps app blocks the game from finishhing downloading and it's supposed to be unlocked at September 9th 3AM PDT.

Then hopefully this will at least mean we can see some reviews showing up soon. Not that they matter to me, but still will be nice to read.

Yeah, my copy still says pre-purchased this morning.

At work, currently. I will try tonight.

I checked my friends list, but no on is playing Destiny.

The long awaited sci-fi shooter Destiny has begun its global rollout for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 with sales beginning in New Zealand, while the game's developer Bungie plans to hold its own launch event at its offices in Bellevue, Washington.

Officially, people will be able to pick up their disc copies of Destiny at 12:01 am Tuesday in their respective time zones. That's also true in the US, but digital download copies won't be made available for the entire US until 12:01 am Pacific time, or 3:01 am Eastern time. However, anyone who has managed to pick up the game can go ahead and play since Bungie has launched the multiplayer servers for Destiny.

Speaking of Bungie. they will be holding their own Destiny launch event today, from noon to five PM, at their offices located at 550 106th Avenue in Bellevue, Washington. The company said:

"The first 300 attendees stand a good chance of touring our studio and stepping into the Crucible for a match of competitive multiplayer action. The first 1,000 people in line won't leave empty-handed. Everyone who attends can enjoy the fun and surprises that we have planned."

That includes an unnamed member of the Destiny development team performing a coordinated skydive with the members of the Red Bull Air Force. Are you excited about the launch of Destiny?

Looks like I won't be playing until tomorrow evening. :(

I keep pressing the "Play it on 9/9/2014" button on the Xbox One with hopes that it will launch the game, but no luck :(

Hopefully id doesn't do that ridiculously long "installing" process that the Beta did since you already have it downloaded. Looks like I won't be able to even play until Weds night anyway :(.

The beta download was a launcher...The preload is the full game, no extra downloading except the 300MB day one patch
Thanks for that confirmation. Good to know. I'm installing it now upstairs while I work downstairs. Won't even be able to play it tonight though :(.....gotta pull a maintenance window.
