I loved the second installment (Dreamfall: Longest Journey); it was one of my top 10 on the original Xbox. I was very surprised and pleased to hear that it will be coming to the Wii U. It definitely tilts me in the direction of getting one, assuming it will be platform exclusive.

Quoting:

Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey will be coming to Wii U, Red Thread Games confirmed to Edge. The game was a resounding success on Kickstarter, hauling in over $1.5 million in March 2013. While the crowdfunding project didn't have a stretch goal related to Wii U development, Creative Director Ragnar Tornquist said Nintendo approached the developer in late autumn last year about porting the game to Wii U, and were the first console holder to do so.

"At that point, however, we weren't ready to make any commitments regarding engine and platforms, so we decided to wait," Tornquist said. "We got back in touch with Nintendo in late May of this year, and they were very interested in working with us."

Red Thread Games hasn't indicated when Dreamfall Chapters will come to Wii U, but it is slated to launch on PC, Mac and Linux in November 2014.

there was a past interview in which someone, from the development team i presume, said this game was also likely coming to ps4 & xbox1

Oh, really? Okay, well, it's true they didn't say it would be only on the Wii U, just that Nintendo was the first to approach them.

Which is good, btw -- the fact that Nintendo approached them first. I'm glad they are getting more aggressive about going after interesting little indie projects. I saw another story recently about 50 Unity-developed games being in the pipeline for Wii U. Excellent.

Nintendo is finally realizing what they need to do. I've always wanted to play this game will happily play this HD remake.

Is that what it is -- an HD remake of Longest Journey? Dang, I thought it was a new game in the series.

edit: Wait, though -- it's referred to as a "sequel" on the Kickstarter page. "Dreamfall Chapters is the long-awaited sequel to acclaimed PC adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey." I think it's a new game. "With Dreamfall Chapters, we will finally continue the darkly magical story that began in the critically acclaimed and award-winning adventures The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. ... It's been our dream to tell more stories in The Longest Journey universe, and we've brought back the core team behind the saga for this long-awaited sequel."

I "think" it's an HD remake. I know that Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is a game already released, and that seems to be the game they are talking about bringing over to the Wii U.

It's a little confusing, because all of the titles in this series are so damn similar.

There is "The Longest Journey" (1st game), then there is "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey" (2nd game), and now there is "Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey," the upcoming 3rd game in the series. It's hard to keep the titles straight.

The 3rd one won't be out for its original platform (PC) until November of this year. After that, it'll come to Wii U and maybe other consoles.

Damn. So this really is a new game. Whoever was left in charge of the naming the games trolls hard. lol

Here's a gameplay demo. It goes from 3:10 to 3:30 or so, followed by Q & A. It gives you a general sense of how the game looks at this point. They've been working on it about a year. It's a team of about 14 or 15 people.

He says, in addition to Mac & Steam, it will "also be coming out on one un-named next-generation console. We haven't announced it yet, but it will be coming out on a next generation console." I find his use of the word "one" to be interesting, although I don't necessarily think he means it's platform exclusive. He might mean they've only managed to work out an agreement for one console so far -- presumably the Wii U.

He says it's a 10 to 12 hr game. He also mentions that they removed the combat and stealth elements that were in the previous games (weren't that good and people didn't like them), and now the game focuses entirely on adventuring and story. "We do a lot of storytelling. Our games are all about the story." "Violence is an option for some of the characters," though it sounds like it's in terms of a decision point, rather than combat.

They also comment that the game has lots of decision points, where you shape how the story turns out. These are not moral choices, good vs. bad -- they tried to stay well away from that -- but instead are "grey area" and just about how you would like to play through.

Still hoping it comes to XBox One as I really liked The Longest Journey on Xbox.
