Yup, it’s 6 months away. But new consoles
are 9-10 months away, and we’re all discussing them, soooooo yeah.

Already rumors of Sony not showing again this year. It didn’t hurt them last year, so I don’t see why they would bother...?

The spaces between realities!
Can't imagine why they wouldn't go....
Unveil the PS5 during their show in February and build up hype during E3.

If they don't go I think that is a mistake. Sony could skip E3 again and still sell a boatload of consoles, but to me skipping it is dumb. Especially this year with a new system coming out.

I'm sure Sony will go. Skipping 2019 was no big deal as it was a full year and a half before next gen. Skipping right before a new console would be crazy.

My guess, Xbox and PlayStation will be there with just games.

Both will hold events before e3 just to show off the console.

Xbox will be the only one to hold a conference.

Would it? I doubt it would make any real difference

I'm surprised. I mean E3 is in June when you are looking to ramp up preorders.

If this doesn't hurt them, it just shows that E3 doesn't matter anymore.

Sony may just not have enough games to show so something smaller and more dedicated could work it better, hopefully not in the format of a Nintendo direct.

Do they still have exclusivity with COD?

It may not matter to most gamers (IE not people like us). I'm not saying that'st he case, but if Sony can skip E3 and not have it hurt them months before a new console, then E3 = dead.

Again I'm shocked Sony is skipping. Last year was no big deal, that's a long way out to next gen. This year though? They are looking to sell consoles in the fall.

That's the funny thing to me. While I am disappointed that Sony isn't participating in E3, I don't think they need it to sell or drum up interest in the PS5. They unveiled the logo at CES and people lost their mind for some reason. A Nintendo direct style reveal or a dedicated press event of their own will more than satisfy the hardcore and the casual will get hit over the head with the forthcoming marketing blitz.

I don't think E3 is dead just because Sony has success not being there. MS and Nintendo still have a huge presence as do alot of 3rd party publishers. However should the other console makers decided to skip along with other big name publishers and developers, then we may have a problem.

I love the specticle of E3 and hope it continues on for many more years.

I think it would be arrogant of them to not start building up hype, considering MS is already pushing hard.

My guess is they can/will just put out a video right around the same time showing off their console.

I would think a lot more people who are interested watch stuff after the fact on Youtube (a lot of it isn't at a great time for us live).

Are they "skipping" E3 or basically just not spending the money to go?

Sony arrogant, no way. /sarcasm

IMO Sony can afford to be arrogant. MS sometimes can't get out of its own way and Nintendo is Nintendo.

I belive they are skipping E3 in its entirety. No floor space, no press conference.

This isn't the MS of the X1 launch who tripped over their own feet. They are talking games and power, and doing so consistently. Unless MS announces some crazy high price. Sony needs to at least be getting their message out.

Agreed. The team Phil Spencer has put together are masterful at the art of PR this time around. Damn near PHds in PR. My issue with MS is some of the policies they're enacted going forward but that's a topic for another thread.

Again, I think we agree Sony needs to get the message out but I think they want to build hype on their terms. And again, I'd argue with the power of the playstation brand worldwide, they are in a unique position to call their shots so to speak. E3 is a big loudspeaker, especially in console launch years but Sony could easily do smaller more controlled "Playstation Play" event throughout the year leading up to the release and have the same success. IMO they could also send out a press release with the final specs, price and release date to all the major news and video-game outlets in the next 4-5 months and the hardcore would lose their minds with glee.

MS doesn't have option worldwide and needs to put their message out, early and often. Clearly and concise.

I agree. Just look at the reception of the Xbox One reveal video. 320k views. Xbox Series X reveal, 10 million views.

At this point, I really don't have much interest in the PS5 launch. Maybe once I see some games exclusive to it, or at least made for it, that will change. This is coming from someone who prefers the PS4 as the ultimate single player/exclusives machine but lately I'm just not feeling it. Ghost of Tsushima is looking good, but with the release time table on that game I'm going to need a PS5 port/remaster for it honestly.
