I'm not sure of the direction I should take now. I completed the Mountaintop of the Giants, or at least I think I did. And I don't want to have to deal with those sneaky invisible assassins again. And that's where I found a portal to the Haligtree area. But I'm not sure if that should be my next destination or if I'm missing something and should visit another location. I haven't beaten the boss in the area you can visit from a medallion you get from Varre so perhaps that's where I should go next.

Did you beat the Fire Giant and sit at the grace site on the rim?

Thanks for answering. I did last night and Melina asked me if I'm ready to commit a cardinal sin but I refused. I want to complete the tree area first but I got destroyed by a bunch of those cleanrot knights and quit, lol. I'm curious to see who the boss is for this tree area, destroy him and then see where Melina takes me. It feels like I'm getting close to the end of this journey.

You are close, but you can go with her now as you have to go elsewhere to finish the game. What I will say, is make sure you have done what you want to do in the Capital before going with Melina and sinning.

Give into the darkness.
Did you find all of the underground areas in the Capital?
If not...I'd get on that.

Also

Bring your A game for the Hailigtree area and it's boss.

I just remembered that I need to find 2 more seedbed curses for Dung who I believe awaits my return in the sewers of the capital. I hated that area because I got so lost. I just don't know where the last 2 curses are.

Whoever the boss of Haligtree is he will fall just like the rest. :hehe:

You have multiple ways you can go in those sewers...
Hopefully nobody spoils that boss 😆

OMG, the boss at the Haligtree feels impossible to beat. I thought I had won but this boss has a 2nd phase and just beat the hell out of me and I rage quit after that, lol. I have a little more to explore in this area before I give it another try but damn I just don't know how its possible to avoid these super combos.

After being away for awhile, I decided to jump back in this game. .. big mistake.... Plus after brain surgery, I noticed my eyes are very sensitive to light.

Bring your A game. That’s a true dark souls boss. She is tough as a f***

I've been farming a lot, character is at level 285 and I don't think I'm even half way through lol, sadly there are still enemies that can kill me in only a few hits. It now takes me over 700k runes to raise a level but I've been cheesing that glitch near the blood area where you jump off the cliff and keep swinging, get about 145k runes each time lol.

I really wish this game had a quest log, it seems so unfinished and half assed compared to western action RPG's. There is something I do like about it that keeps me coming back but there are a lot of things wrong with it that some don't seem to want to acknowledge.

Doesn't need a quest log.

Damn, I can't beat the Haligtree boss. The boss heals when you're hit with an attack and heals when you block attacks. It feels really unfair.

Hands down one of the hardest bosses I’ve ever come across in the Souls series. It makes it all the more sweeter when you eventually break her down.

I’m not sure what kind of character you’re going with but my recommendation is for a heavy weapon with bleed and the ability to interrupt her attacks. Then use the Mimic ashes so you have a copy of yourself in the battle. It’s possible to stun lock her this way.

Its a tough boss but also super cheap. I get that the boss can heal when connecting with one of their attacks. But healing when blocking is a cheap trick. This game is great but this level of cheapness should not be here. Ohh well, I've played a little over a hundred hours and its been fun up to this point, I just didn't expect this level of trickery in an otherwise fun/fair gaming experience.

My build is built on blocking lol, definitely gonna be a nightmare for me when I get there.

I think I just need to get a better handle on some of the more AoE attacks from phase 2. I first went into the fight with my strength/faith set up with the Godslayer Greatsword and my fire incantations. For the record, she dodges quite well but can be staggered with the giant fireball spell. But she's really fast and I'm having trouble dodging and the attacks that hit really hard.

So, I switched to my barrier build using the Fingerprint Stone Shield. This shield is like a wall and she can't get past it even with all her crazy attacks. But the problem is she also heals when striking the shield, so I've had her down to a sliver of health of few times but then she unleashes a few super combos and regains a large chunk of health even though none of those attacks touched me or drained any of my HP.

The unruly camera for some of the bigger bosses I can deal with. Its a technical issue that doesn't come up that often and is certainly not done on purpose. But this boss being able to heal even when they didn't lay one attack on the player is intentional and total BS in my opinion.

I cant beat the final Boss still so I decided to change my build for my Samurai, going with a suggestion from FextraLife's Wiki...I was missing half the new stuff needed though but it was fun getting them, except one in a Catacomb lol...lets see how it goes with that(Bushido Build, with a Spear with Phantom Slash and some Black Flame Incantations)...big respec at Renella,Faith needs to be up lol...(level 175,close to 250 hours),if this doesnt work,I am done with this game lol.

No, I don’t think she’s cheap. Just very hard to beat. Likewise I don’t think any of the mechanics in the game are cheap.

I find that when players who are new to the Souls type game come up against something challenging to their build it suddenly becomes cheap.

I finally beat her but it was not a fun fight. I think a healing mechanic on hit is fine but healing when blocking is cheap as hell. The game was telling me that I can't get hit and I can't block. So I was left with getting my butt kicked constantly until I had all her moves for both phases memorized and even then it was super tough to beat her since her move set is so various and random.

Plus, lets not forget how crappy the camera is for bosses that like to fly around or those that are really large. I spent a lot of time looking at her crotch since she loves to take to the air before she unleashes hell. I never want to fight her again and that's not something I've said about any of the other bosses.

Still a great game and I hope some of the other so-called AAA devs learn from this game.

Yes, I admit I'm really salty after it took me like 4 days to beat this boss.

Not half assed or unfinished either.
Yes it does, if you don't do exactly what they say when they say it you don't have any reference to what needs to be done so if you end up being in an area and talking to the person and they give you a bunch of info and then you find out you aren't ready for the fights yet and have to move on how the f*** are you supposed to remember what needs to be done later? I'm sorry but these games deserve the same kind of scrutiny every other game would get and if ANY other RPG left out a quest log people would throw a fit about it. The game is half assed technically and unfinished btw, the fact that it's unstable on every platform including PC is proof of that.

Wrong on all counts.

These games and Western RPGs are not the same and thus don't get the same scrutiny. The NPC quests in this game aere 100% optional, not integral to the experience like Westefn RPGs. It isn't the games fault you can't remember basic stuff.

Next you'll want a compass and a map with icons all over it because you're can't follow a simple direction.

If performance is enough to claim a game unfinished then pretty much none are finished.

It seems like people skipped the nes and SNES which is odd as certain individuals are close to my age who post here.

Games then didn't have the ability for people to go online and look up how to accomplish tasks and guess what? Games during those eras were considered legendary.
Heck gaming was saved because of those games.

Today's gamers act like pampered sissies who want there hand held.

You want it to be easier? From Software has you covered... it's called CO-OP.
Too anti social for co-op? Go play inferior/easier games like Days Gone and ASScreed.

The way I played the game, I didn't really care too much about the quests in the beginning, just went wherever and if the enemies were strong, I just farmed or went somewhere else to explore and fight other enemies. That's why I went to Caelid first and slayed the huge ass dragon and some other bosses first not knowing this was supposed to technically be later in the game, the area was hard for a lower level at the time but afterwards I went towards the Raya Lucaria Academy area and felt OP since I was so farmed from Caelid 🤣

It also helped that we could just do gold summons whenever and wherever we wanted. There were no shortage of fingers that were lingering around to help you on your journey.

The beauty of the game is there's no set real path to follow.

If you need assistance or just want to get a bit more OP there are a lot of online guides to tell you where to get the best early game or mid game weapons / spells to have an easier time which admittedly, I did to get a little advantage.

All in all, I enjoyed my time with ER, got the platinum just because it was so fun.

I agree with everything you said. I really liked how my character got stronger while enemies also become tougher as my journey continued. I just think the boss at the Haligtree went too far with the healing mechanic. In my opinion its the one boss that doesn't feel fair.

I shouldn't have been so stubborn to insist that I had to beat that boss solo. I refused to summon any human help. And that's my fault because the battle against that boss soured my experience just a bit. I still think this game is amazing. Ironically as a gamer who really likes open world games I think my favorite parts of this game is the more tailored legacy dungeons. Stormveil Castle, Raya Lucaria Academy, Royal Capital, Volcano Manor were all so well designed and fun to explore in comparison to the open world. I actually think FromSoft should have cut a little in the open world so you wouldn't have to go up against the same boss types over and over again.
