Elon Musk And SpaceX StarLink Claims 100 mbps

I had to deal with satellite internet for 7 years and I don't trust it. I can believe the download speed, but I can't imagine how they can solve the latency issue. I was averaging 1600-2000ms ping on average.

Is be jumping on this if I still lived in a place with limited options.

Starlink’s latency may be as low as 25 milliseconds, which is comparable to fiber internet. This is super important because the high latency of current satellite internet providers makes it nearly impossible to play online games and makes video conferencing difficult, too.

Starlink can achieve such a low lag or delay because Starlink’s satellites sit relatively close to the Earth’s surface—about 340 miles away. For comparison, competitors, such as Hughesnet and Viasat, use satellites that are more than 22,000 miles away from our planet—it’s no wonder satellite internet is infamous for having slow internet speeds and high latency periods. The signal from your home to the satellites have to travel quite far, and this distance accounts for the slow speeds typically associated with satellite internet.

I'd be all over it too if fiber didn't become an option 4 months ago in this area. I'm guessing there will still be small data caps...

I’m still jelly, just five houses down there’s a divide, everything on the north side can get fiber, my side don’t, not even the new town homes they just built in between

I have 1 gig fiber.

I suffered many years with poop internet. They had fiber lines on EVERY road around me (and even running across part of my property) for almost 5 years now. I already gave up on it until heading to the local hick town one afternoon in late March and they had rolls of fiber cable everywhere.

I would've had it if I could've gotten it installed 2 weeks earlier. They raised the rates $20, so I settled with 500/125. My tests have only hit over 500 once, yet I can average 60MB/s on downloads on PSN, so idk...
