Prefer gameplay over graphics. However, I'm still going to wait until I see a comparison between console and pc.

Who da fuq needs a demo for a Fallout game?!

Who da fuq needs a demo for a Fallout game?!

Yeah I don't know.

I can't f***ing wait for this though! For the last week it's suddenly been dawning on me that I get to play this soon and I'm getting more excited than I can remember for any game.

I can't wait to leave the vault for the first time, find my first weapon. That's my favorite part :)

Oh and I've got the Tuesday and Wednesday off so I'll be putting in a good 10 hours I'd assume :D

Four leaked videos have appeared on Pastebin.
I haven't watched them yet, but it would be wise to assume they contain spoilers. So, watch at your own risk. *Starts playing first video*

Cautious note to everybody: just be careful and mindful of any posts you make that can potentially spoil the game for others.

Second that. Fallout leaks are everywhere. Let's keep them out of the thread or hid behind spoiler tags, for people who want to go into the game fresh.

Hmmm... I watched the last video (no real spolers, except for baddies and the tech tree), and it really looks like a patch for fallout 3.

I mean, its obviously prettier, a lot more camp, and runs a lot smoother, but the mechanics are identical to Fallout 3.

Luckily I need some more Fallout. And its hard to judge a game by 4 minutes of gameplay.

I can't wait to kill my allies.

A lot of what this game is doing is not going to be seen on the surface.

  • A lot of what this game is doing is tied to the Perk system.
  • Plus none of these videos show weapon customisation or settlement building.
  • Not to mention that the character(you) is fully voiced now.
  • We are in a whole new area.
  • There is no Level cap or hard finish.
  • The shooting and combat mechanics have been enhanced. This is likely not something you will see, but more something you feel when playing.
  • The slowing down of time as opposed to the old pause type system will have a significant effect in the hairy combat situations.
  • Oh, we also have weather now.

It seems like they have done a lot. Obviously, the main components of the fallout series are here, but they seem to have tweaked them an awful lot.

Is there an option where you do not wear skin tight tights? Nothing against LSDM (or whatever its called), but I cannot see myself starring at butt crack of a guy for hours.

If there are no options, I guess I will have to play a female instead.

Just read that Hardcore Mode will not be making a return and Weapon Condition is also gone. I know the Weapon Condition bit will please many, but I actually enjoyed having to repair my unique weapons. It gave a use to the multitude of guns that I'd find on my adventures. Now wtf am I supposed to do with them!?

Hopefully there will be a mod the will incorporate these things back into the game.

Just find some better gear. Then you won't have to stare at buttcrack.

The omission of hardcore mode is saddening.

The graphics are so muddy. The graphics resemble the recent iteration of The Sims.

I'd play Fallout 4 and love it if it had N64 graphics. This is a game that proves that graphics don't matter that much and never will.

The best part is that it only has to prove that to the people that are going to love the s*** out of this single player game.

A new Fallout is about to be played!!!!

I think its silly we cannot say a game is not pretty, when a game is not pretty.

I totally got it why its poor taste to comment on people being short, bald, ugly, or make fun of their ehnical group etc, because these are things people can't change or wanted, or shouldn't be ashamed of (like Ethnical group), but it should be perfectly fine to say a person is fat when a person is fat, saying a person is lazy when...he is lazy. because these are quality that can be improved.

Back to game. I totally get it that gameplay is king, but there is nothing wrong with saying a game isn't pretty when it isn't. You can senjoy the game, while still say the game is ugly & that you are disappointed by that aspect of the game..

If you think about it, by saying graphics do not matter, its kind of dismissing the effort of many artists, designers that put in great effort to make the game as good looking as possible (within time limit & hardware). Remember a game is 2 parts, one part gameplay, another part visuals, give or that, similar amount of people devote to each main part. By saying graphics do not matter, you are basically demeaing the effort of half the development team. On a similar note, by saying garphics is all that matter, you are dismissing the design part of game development.

Personally, I think the game was original designed for last gen, & port to next gen without spending too much work on the visual department. I do not blame the artists/designers/develoeprs, they probably overloaded, but we should be allow to say what it is.

I know people will say, but it will run smooth. Firstly we do not know how smooth the game runs, & also no one is expecting the best visual, but you have to be Rose-tinted glass to think the game cannot be improved by a fair bit.

Will I still buy the game, yes, I buy game for the gameplay primary ( I have never bought a game that looks great but play bad), but I will be dishonest to say visuals do not affect my enjoyment of the game a fair bit.

Two things.

1. A game is more that 2 parts. Gameplay, Visuals, Audio, Story, Presentation, etc.

2. Fallout has never been a graphics king contender. It has always fallen short on the graphics front. So to say this was a last-gen game porte is to say you haven't played the previous fallout games.

The jump here is relative to Forza 4 to Forza 5.

Yes, it is fine to say a game is ugly if you truly believe it is ugly, but ho many times does that happen? Usually that kind of comment is followed by a silly comparison.

1) I meant to say 2 main parts, it obviously have other parts ( I will also group Presentation with visuals, & story with gameplay, but the key point is by dismissing visuals, its dismissing a huge part of the development team). I thought it was fairly clear, but nevertheless, now it is clarified lets moved on.

2) I actually played fallout 3. I owned a copy of the game. It wasn't pretty. As you already said, Fall out has always fallen short on visuals, so your point is not to far in line with mine. Bottom line, it fall shot on visual front.

If it is usually follow by a silly comparision, then judge & comment on these silly comparisons.

Ugly due to Parity.Deal with it

It has nothing to do with console parity. Plenty of console games this gen run similarly and look good. There is no death sentence to visuals for parity, Fallout games are just average looking.

I wouldn't. Presentation and visuals do not go hand in hand. A good looking game can have terrible presentation, and presentation is very important. I wouldn't list graphics as a bigger than audio either. Neither would I put story in with game play as they are very different things.

Nobody dismisses visuals, though. People say " visuals are not important " because of the huge emphasis developers, gamers, and media place on them.

Like you said before, gameplay is king, but you wouldn't think that when reading articles, or forums, or seeing mediocre games with out-of-this-world visuals.

Our points of view are not very far apart. I was never disagreeing with your overall opinion. Just making some points clear that I felt were important to the discussion.

How do you judge a comparison between Ryse and Fallout? There is nothing you can really compare, and thus the usual reply of " what a silly comparison" ends with a snarky retort and the mad house antics continue.

Can't wait to get lost in this world, hoping to get some more creepy atmosphere in some parts like the dunwich building or the sewers early on.
