Far Cry 4 aiming for 1080p for both next-gen platforms

I thought it was just bad for any medium. Affluent white kid of Richpeopleeverywhere America finds himself among a tribe of warriors who just can't seem to fend off these outsiders. Said affluent kid becomes "one of them" and subsequently becomes the most powerful warrior out of all of them in the span of like 3 days. At the end "gets" the girl....this is such a overplayed trope (they didn't even try to make it interesting or different, just lifted it wholesale). Funny enough the backlash from the story spurred Ubi to make FC4's story the way it currently is.
I guess i really didn't care or even think about any of the social implications when I played the game. Sure the story is ridiculous, but nevertheless it kept me more engaged than most FPS I have played. Maybe I just have poor taste.

I think that's the way oversensitive people wanted to see it. He was far more manipulated than a savior. They used the affluent kid because he is the most naive, and has the most potential to be shocked or for change. I thought the execution was damn fine, and Vas is easily one of the best villains I can think of in games.

I always saw it as a parallel for how the US keeps getting involved in stuff that backfires. Supplying weapons that often get tuned back on us, or end up in the hands of brutal regimes and what-not. I thought the end was purposefully dissatisfying, as there wasn't a very good end to any of it.

Still, I doubt the way I looked at it was a purposeful intention. The meaning all kind of ends up a projection of the viewer.

I will agree it's not the most original concept, but there is a reason those tropes are so overused.

I never really tried to think about the story to deeply either, the most I thought about was how much time I was spending NOT saving my friends, but thats a paradox all open-world games suffer when the story sets these sort of narrative beats that seem to instill a sense of urgency but the player is off doing random things for hours (in game days) on end. The whole commentary on racism and 'white savior' trope stuff was just the effect of over-analyzation if you ask me, but what would I know right?

I'm annoyed that FC4 and DAI come out on the same day. Probably going to go with FC4 though.

Joe says it is basically FC3, and very little innovation. I am sure it will be cool....but damn, i kinda was hoping for some truly new things but at the same time i should have known not to really expect that.

Yeah, once it was announced this early, I figured it was going to be more of an iterative follow-up rather than a radical change to the formula. And with how well 3 did for them, and how much I loved 3, I was glad tbh. This is all I wanted for the next game, a new setting with expanded mechanics from what worked in FC3. Only thing I'm sort of bummed about is the amount of recycled weapons & animations, animations especially. With this being a whole new character, there really shouldn't be any animations being re-used from FC3 imo...

Looks like FC3.5, but I'm OK with that.

As am I. As I said above, iteration is all I even wanted out of FC3's successor. I'd venture to guess that the first fully current gen FarCry game will be a bit more ambitious. This one being cross-gen has obviously held it back, so hopefully when they do make the full on current gen game, they really go all out.
