Man I wish I could play this!
Played and completed the demo. I've got mixed feelings. *Ramble Alert*
As someone who played the original when it was released in '97, I can't believe how good the game looks. Gameplay and cut scenes are seamlessly integrated.
The combat seems less JRPG and more action adventure. Reminds me of FF13 to be honest.
I'm getting the overall impression that the game is not quite remake but a retelling and that is bothering me more than it should.
There's alot of new content that fleshed out the narrative but is for now is slightly changing the story. I feel like Square is trying to add all the additional lore from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII into the remake to make one cohesive story. Plus based on the video at the end it seems like they're focusing heavy on Midgar in this part of the remake. Which is odd considering that the Midgar section in the original was not very long.
I'm glad that the remake is a thing, but I'm going to pass on this until they finish the entire project.
I'm also wondering how long it will be before this is a complete game. I can't imagine waiting years between episodes. I'm either gonna wait to pick up the first part when it's on sale, or wait until all episodes have been released.
Here's the most disconcerting part for me. Square Enix, to my knowledge, has never said how many parts the remake is split into. Obviously there is a part 2 but if they're making the entire Midgar sequence part 1, a sequence in the original was at best 5 to 10 percent of the game, there is to potential for 2 things to happen:
1. They go full on Capcom mode and there are ALOT of full price parts ( Given all the dlc/expansions for FF15 and how broke up FF13's story into 3 separate games, this is quite possible)
2. In keeping with the original game shipping on 3 disks, the remake has 3 parts. However the remaining parts are rushed and not nearly as comprehensive as part 1.
Regardless, worst case scenario, I can see the remake parts starting on the PS4 and not finishing until a few years into the PS5 lifetime.
I have to agree. Though I really like what I played I'm not thrilled about it being several games. Also wonder if they are going to charge full price for each game...
For those who have finished og FFVII, those it feel short/ episodic?
While the game is pretty, the thing is making my fan work overtime on my PS Pro. I was going to replace my Pro last year with the latest version so that the fan was quiet. But now with the PS5 coming. I am not going to bother. I just turned up the volume of the game, and I don't hear it. The game sounds soooo nice.
